I find that the SP 4 makes quite a lot of errors translating my hand written notes to type in One Note.

I must be too used to using Macs, because I cannot find a way to insert the type cursor into the typed notes once converted so I can correct them. I'm sure someone can tell me? I tried what looked like the right butting but when I touch the line to insert the cursor, I just get 'ink' blobs!

This may help ....

On my SP (3, W8.1) there are two versions of One Note.

The free app version and the full version which is part of the office suite. The office version has much more functionality

Yes - it's a really silly idea and I have no idea why MS would have done that.

However, this is the full Office version.

Under the draw tab at the top hit 'type' icon on the far left.
Or, with pen, right click (by press and hold down) with the pen then choose the above, which inserts the curser where you right clicked.

Edit: I find it freaking amazing at deciphering my scrawl! You can half print/ write and be at sloppy angles and basically do your worst and it still figures it out. Whoever is working on the ink to text must be a bloody genius. Congrats, nameless programmers!

I can't wait to see what inking is like after the Anniversary update.

I installed Evernote the other day, which I have been using on my Macs, and it works well "Ish" on the SP4.

The appearance is not great on the desktop version: somehow a lot of Windows apps still fail to put design as any kind of priority and still use the same somewhat nasty font that you'd find in File Explorer in 1995. No excuse for that!

Then you almost need two versions - the full DT version and the Touch version - depending on what mode you have the SP4 in when you want to use it.

From the pov of just being able to quickly generate a 'piece of paper' and scribble a note on it, Evernote wins over ON I think. It's not good at ignoring where your wrist rests on the screen though - you get all kinds of extra ink marks from that!
