Hi during the recent Windows 10 upgrade, our computer was turned off.

Now when I turn it on I get the grub rescue prompt, saying that it cannot find the partition.

I have used 'ls' to see the partitions, none of them can be booted from.

I'm not familiar with grub or grub rescue, I had to google it the other day.

The C drive has partitions for ElementaryOS and Windows 10.

Something had previously gone wrong with my ElementaryOS installation, so I don't mind if I lose this in recoverying Windows 10.

I have a Windows 8.1 disc but not Windows 10.

How do I repair or get Windows 10 running on my PC again?

I don't mind if I have to do a fresh install (provided I'm not buying a Windows 10 licence), lose Windows files and applications. I just want Windows 10 back.

If you are OK with starting a fresh on the PC you can use a Live Linux USB or Disc (Elementary Linux does it) to boot. Use the included Gparted App to delete the existing partitions and start again with a fresh install of Win 10

Edit; your Win 10 licence will be OK as it is stored against your account

You can download Win10 the ISO form MS & burn it to DVD .
