I've got a bit of a strange one.

I use Linux 99% of the time however in the rare time I use Windows to game I often stay booted into it (as it overwrites my bootloader - thanks Windows). My computer wakes from Hibernate (and also Sleep) and I can't for the life of me figure out why it is doing so. It doesn't wake under Linux at all (from Sleep). I do use WOL however magic packets are not being sent to the computer and Windows is instructed to only wake with a magic packet is sent. I've also confirmed it isn't network activity as I've tried unplugging the computer from Ethernet.

powercfg -lastwake shows this:

PS C:\Users\micha> powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0

Nothing in the event viewer either. I've tried following anything I can think of. Anyone else got any tips?

Wakelocks are a pain to hunt down, i prefer to just ignore them..

had a problem like this at my last work with all HP pc waking up in windows 10 - it turned out to be a setting in the USB power management that fixed it - can not find the info on it now tho.

Disable on USB devices (keyboard and mouse), and USB ports.

@mdf different times - sometimes during the day, sometimes at night.

In Hibernate there is no power being provided to USB devices and there is no way to wake it from these. The only other thing I could think of was the network but this will make no sense as this doesn't occur when the PC is booted into Linux (of which, I can still wake via the network if needed). You literally have to press the power button to wake it from hibernate in Windows on this PC where if I sleep it under Linux (and it doesn't wake at random here either) you can use the keyboard to wake the PC.

my laptop has had this insomnia for 4 years since i got it. still haven't found the cause.

Next time it sleeps unplug all the usb devices. See if it wakes up.

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

^devices with 'allow this device to wake computer' enabled

powercfg -waketimers

^scheduled tasks set to wake computer'

Apparently there is also a power management option to prevent that entirely.

Boom! Turned out to be Windows Update because I hardly ever use the Windows side of things. Thanks all! Didn't think that Windows Update could wake the computer from a hibernate. Now back to using Linux for the next while until I decide to play a Windows only game again!
