Just an interesting sideline to the seemingly never-ending saga of failed Windows Updates....

I have a home network of 3 desktops, all of which are running Windows 10 ( two on Home, one on PRO).  From time to time when the feature updates roll out one or other PCs get errors installing the update.  The universal answer to date has been a clean install using whatever latest ISO I can find - burnt to a dvd.  The inconvenience of this is re-installing old apps.  My wife is a genealogist and accountant so finding the source apps for aging software can be a problem (yes I should save, then run - but the I need to find the saved file months later).

To date, a feature release that fails to install fails repeatedly forever.  Usual corrective actions (such as WU repairs) dont work.  Not so for 1709 (fall creators update).  This installed on 2 or 3 pcs first time - but failed on my wifes PC (no name hardware built early 2017, running PRO), starting around December 2017.  Numerous retried installs failed on a near-daily basis until April (no data caps now is a blessing).  I procrastinated with a clean install because a version of Reckon personal accounts had disappeared from the Reckon support website.  In early April a WU update of 1709 succeeded!!

So the clear message here is that W10 feature updates that fail through WU may well succeed later.  Just be patient and endure the failures.
