I am not sure how accurate this is but if true it is big news. MSFT working on a Chromium to replace Edge

Just as Edge is actually getting stable and pretty darned good! Strange because when you search for Firefox from Edge, the first thing you see is a big advertisement reminding people about the many fine qualities of Edge!
That would seem to be Microsofts wheel house these days, just as things are working OK and one is feeling more relaxed they break it.
This news should make web developers life a little bit easier, one less browser with its own quirks to handle. This will mean that 3 of the top 4 browsers will all be using the same rendering engine (Chrome, Opera and now new-Edge). Just leaves Firefox doing its own thing.

Good point
yitz: Most likely a cost-cutting measure after all the browser wars are well and truly past.
If that were true it would have happened back at IE6.
I wonder if this means battery usage on tablets and laptops will go up. Edge was good with battery life, chrome is evil and drains it a lot faster

chevrolux: I would just love them to not shove Edge in your face when switching to Chrome.
Believe me, Google shove Chrome incessantly in your face when you switch from Chrome to Edge as I have done recently!
The chromium Browser has been formally announced by Microsoft. It be available on older Windows versions, MacOS and Windows 10

"Edge will now be delivered and updated for all supported versions of Windows".
By the time this is released in productions I would imagine Windows 7 being so close to its Jan 2020 end of life that they wouldn't bother to support it.

I was thinking that but there is nothing stopping MS releasing for Win7 after life support is unplugged or they may push it out before that date.
