Just as Edge is actually getting stable and pretty darned good!  Strange because when you search for Firefox from Edge, the first thing you see is a big advertisement reminding people about the many fine qualities of Edge!

That would seem to be Microsofts wheel house these days, just as things are working OK and one is feeling more relaxed they break it.

This news should make web developers life a little bit easier, one less browser with its own quirks to handle. This will mean that 3 of the top 4 browsers will all be using the same rendering engine (Chrome, Opera and now new-Edge). Just leaves Firefox doing its own thing.

Most likely a cost-cutting measure after all the browser wars are well and truly past.

If that were true it would have happened back at IE6.

I wonder if this means battery usage on tablets and laptops will go up. Edge was good with battery life, chrome is evil and drains it a lot faster

I would just love them to not shove Edge in your face when switching to Chrome.

This was an article from Windows Central. It was as far as I can make out speculation based on MS releasing some code to GitHub which they do quite often (especially since connect() just started).

It has been repeated on a number of tech sites and a few forums but appears to me that people are repeating it blindly without checking their sources.

The original article when I read it referred to an internal project at MS, but strangely, there appears no other references from other sites that watch MS regarding that project.

What drew my attention to it was the speed the article was repeated and the assertions being made, especially with the headline it had.

I am not saying that the article isnt true, but for me, seeing a headline like that, I would expect to see proper referencing of sources. Instead the author uses the phrase “I am told...”.

Believe me, Google shove Chrome incessantly in your face when you switch from Chrome to Edge as I have done recently!

"Edge will now be delivered and updated for all supported versions of Windows".

By the time this is released in productions I would imagine Windows 7 being so close to its Jan 2020 end of life that they wouldn't bother to support it.

I was thinking that but there is nothing stopping MS releasing for Win7 after life support is unplugged or they may push it out before that date.

so the news I read didnt say that MS are replacing edge as some people suggested.

It is my understanding that they are updating some edge internals in order to develop better cross platform capability and to simplify the work developers need to do.

given the cross platform support that is currently built into windows 10 and Visual Studio that would make a lot of sense to me.
