I have Mint 18.3 & Windows 10 pro installed on my Dell 17" laptop with an intel core i7 8th generation CPU, everything is good, but there is one puzzlement.

If I use a USB stick on Linux, and then use the same stick on Windows, I get a notification that I should scan the USB stick. If I scan it no faults are found.

Does anyone have an idea why Windows is behaving like this?

Google around for umount Linux bit flags and see if syncing, unmounting and ejecting from the terminal leads to the same behaviour.

The USB sticks are unmounted from Linux, & unplugged. Linux is closed, rebooted into Windows, then when the USB stick is plugged in again the notification comes up. It happens with Windows 7 & 10.

It is just a nuisance, but can be ignored.

Lurking.
I've got a sim USB with mint18.3 which I dual boot off w8.1.
When ever I load windows it asks me to reformat the stick.
I just ignore it but worry someone else will helpfully click on reformat.

I think I may have the answer.

I have most of my software on a 32GB Lexar USB 3 stick. I copied all the files, then I made a new partition table, & formatted it NTFS instead of the standard Fat32.

Replaced the files, all done in Linux Mint. I then tested it in Windows 10 & Windows 7. No notifications!!
