My family regularly share photos over Facebook Messenger, between MACs, IPhone, Android and Win PC app, the quality always seems to be downgraded. I read on the Internet that Facebook had upgraded Messenger to allow 4K images, 4096x4096. Has this upgrade reached NZ as the largest size I have received is 2897x2048.

The limit is not resolution but file size -25MB. Anything over that will be compressed automatically when uploaded.

You can compress the image before sending if required using irfanview.

Best would be lower resolution though to send uncompressed.

But Microsoft Messenger? You mean Facebook right?

Or better still - try WhatsApp 2GB limit.

Just checked a messenger photo I sent this weekend 1848 x 4000 5.8mb in gallery . Messenger info say 2000x912

Would be nice if it didn't resize

Yes, Facebook Messenger but used as the app from the Microsoft app store which is why I confused the issue. I tend not to use FBook just the Messenger element on Android and Windows. So my question was re the 4K claim, and I know this image is greater than 4K but it was a sort of extreme test.

The sent image is 21 Meg, 7045x4096 (bigger than 4K which is 4096x4096) and it gets to the far end when sent via Messenger as an image 2897x2048 and 1.1 Meg, which is not approximately 4K.

Yeah just remember to send the file as a document/attachment and not just a photo or video otherwise it will still be compressed.

You're mixing up MP(Megapixels) and MB (Megabytes), two different things.

MP Megapixels ("Meg") describes the camera lens setting.

MB Megabytes describes the file size and storage space that photo/ file will occupy on a hard drive.
