Thanks for the responses to my "Disk Check" problems.  That's fixed.  Now I have another problem.  I regularly copy files to one of my flash drives and all of a sudden my Power Desk crashes after a few seconds into "edit/Copy".  The same thing happens with my Windows Explorer.  I have tried uninstalling, deleting all temporary files, etc., then reinstalling, but to no avail.  Any ideas?  Obviously there's a conflict somewhere, and my Sys Info Error Reporting file gives me "Application Error  Faulting application pdexplo.exe (or explorer.exe ... faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x0000cffd. #x000d; &#x000a."  My computing skills are not up to fixing this - Any wise soul out there willing to help?  Richard.

Do you have any antivirus program running? Have you tried doing this while the AV is disabled?

Yes, I've disabled the AV, when reinstalling the program.  I've reinstalled TWICE, but to no good effect.  Richard.

I have recently (within the last week or so) had the same problem attempting to copy and paste files with PowerDesk (I have installed and uninstalled Versions 5, 6, and 7 -- and encountered the same problem with all three -- not even Windows Explorer will work to copy & paste after attempting the operation with PowerDesk-- I have to uninstall PowerDesk reboot in order to get Windows Explorer to function again).

My problem began after installing the most recently security updates from Microsoft; I tried uninstalling them and reinstalling PowerDesk, but that did not solve the problem.  I believe there was a recent update of the Adobe Flashplayer software, which may be the problem, but Add/Remove in Control Windows does not list a separately update, so the only option to check that avenue is to uninstall the entire program (then the question remains whether I can reinstall an EARLIER version of Adobe Flashplayer if that uninstall solves the PowerDesk problem).

I will get back to you if I decide to go that route, rather than simply learn to live without PowerDesk and rely on the more basic Windows Explorer.

I suspect Adobe Flashplayer because I have installed the latest Windows updates to my laptop computer without experiencing any interference in Powerdesk, while I DECLINED to install the latest Adobe Update for fear of the same interference.

Thank you for that - It's good to know that I am not alone.  Please keep me posted, as I will you.  I am in email contact on and off with the Avanquest Tech desk, and I've passed on my situation to them - let's also see what they have to say.  Richard.

Thanks, Richard.  By the way, I tried uninstalling the Adobe program, and it made no difference at all.  Please let me know it you get anywhere with Avanquest.  Whatever the problem is, our common experience suggests some foreign software conflict which (theoretically) has a solution!  At least it's not my computer, which is what I had begun to suspect before I saw your notice. For now I have uninstalled Powerdesk and am making do with Microsoft Explorer's standard file management program. - Doug

Yes, I'll keep you posted.  I still have to try your trick, to see if I can get Win Exp working again - without that, I'm completely up the proverbial gumtree! Thanks again.  Richard

I too have this problem with any file manager-related application (Windows Explorer, Powerdesk 6, Powerdesk 7, XYplorer) - all crash if you either right-click or try to use Ctrl-C on a file. Yet it's still possible to drag and drop a file within any of the file manager apps. The porblem occurred on all 3 of my home-networked machines at the same time (all various clolours of Dell, running XP Home).

Coincidentally (or is it?), Firefox 3.0.7 keeps reporting a crash error when I close it.

Anyone any closer to a solution?

Hi, everyone - I haven't solved it yet, but the Avanquest Techs have given me a few leads, some of which I still have to follow up on.  I have uninstalled both Flash Player (10) and Powerdesk, cleared out the temp, files and  rebooted.  At that stage, WinExe works OK (Edite, Copy, Paste - I haven't tried drag n drop).  The Avanquest Techs seem to think that the prob IS with Flash Player 10, but I still have to do some mofe work to confirm that.  Richard.

Thanks, Richard. I downloaded the patch from the Avanquest website (Contectmenu.exe), which seems to have done the trick, without having to uninstall Flash Player or anything else.

Thanks, Doug, and everyone.  I thinnk I'm sorted now.  I don't know from my end if the contextmenu patch works with PD 6, because I gave up and downloaded PD7 ( ! ), and everything is working again now.  The Avanquest techs came back to me with the patch, and with the info that "there is a known problem with Norton 360 and with Norton Internet Security".  Previously, I only heard about the 360 problem, and I only run NIS and System Works.  Anyway, I think, I hope, we are all sorted out, and I really appreciate the input from everyone. Thanks again, and thanks to Geekzone for running a good forum.  Richard.

i am running power desk pro 5 on win xp sp3 and when i installed Norton Sys Wks ver 12 it caused the problem of right clicking in either power desk, windows explorer or my computer to cause the apps to close. i have run the avantquest patch and it fixed the problem in explorer and my computer but not power desk. i then upgraded my flash player and now when i right click in power desk the app attempts to bring up the context menu but only icons appear with no text.

pd ver 5 was the best version and i would like to stay with it. anyone out there solve the problem with ver 5??
thanks

Sorry, no real idea.  But I have found PD6 (and even 7) to be pretty good, despite my initial reluctance to move from 4 and 5.  It might just be worth your while to make the move, and if it doesn't work, you can then complain to Avanquest - there is (was?) a known conflict with Norton Programs, and I found the Avanquest Techs very helpful.  Richard.
