I have windows XP and want to upgrade to windows 7. There is no direct upgrade path, i have to go through vista or clean install.

I have an authentic 64 bit Vista serial key, ca i use this to activate vista 32 bit?

Therefore XP>Vista>7

Windows 7 is, as you know, is in RC version at the moment. You can download it for free right now and use it up until around March (?) of next year.

We don't talk about "less than legal" software here.

Purchase Windows 7 when it comes out. Nothing is free and you don't get free upgrades with any Windows OS at the moment.

My apologies, i meant when the full version comes out is there anyway around buying my own copy of vista, i will if i have to, but it seems awfully cheap of microsoft to make us do that if we dont want to have to reinstall everything

I don't get you. You have just edited your first post asking a completely different question.

Yes, the problem changed, i thought this is better than starting another thread on a related issue

When 7 comes out, bit the bullet, back up your XP system and do a fresh install. You'll get better performance out of a clean OS install
