Just build a Win7 64 machine locally. The machine name was already in the OU (as a XP machine) but when I built it I just had it attached to a workgroup.

After the build went into Control Panel and added it to the domain (got the welcome message) and also gave domain users local admin rights on the domain.

That seemed fine. But now the machine won't boot when connected to the network. It gets to the logon screen for the domain, enter credentials and then it hangs just showing a cursor on a blank screen.

If I disconnect and boot it up it comes up and fine then reconnect the cable, the user can access shared drives and run Outlook.  No logon scripts run when the machine boots (they do for the XP machines but not for Win7 for some reason). The scripts just map drives, printers and do some local file copying so no big deal.

Any idea where I should be looking for solve this?

Thanks

Does CTRL-ALT-DEL work? If so can you go into the task manager and see if the script is running? If you're able to kill this process and windows loads successfully then Windows 7 must have a problem with something in the logon script that Windows XP is fine with.

Regards,
Dan.

C-A-D doesn't work. On other Win 7 machines the login scripts dont run and I had to put versions of the scripts on the local machine.

Maybe on this machine they are running and causing the problem but I have no idea how to debug it.

Can you remove the logon script from the users profile or try an account that doesn't have the logon script set?

I solved the problem though not sure why this worked. I removed the machine from the OU in the domain. Then removed the machine from the domain on the machine itself (booting up logged onto the local machine).

Then added the machine in the OU. Finally booted the machine up logged onto the local machine and added it back to the domain. That seemed to fix things.

Logon scripts don't appear to run for some reason (they do on our XP and Vista boxes) but somebody mentioned a registry entry I could update that would allow scripts to run on Win7.
