Any other geekzoners running this? I just installed it last night - no worries install all drivers working without a hitch.

Just starting to load a few apps up to see how it goes.

interested to hear others thoughts.

I have to install my copy... Still coding the blog feature, and don't have much time. But I also have to modify the partition on this desktop, because the 10GB I have reserved for use with previous versions are not enough now.

As for where to get it... You have to be in the Beta. Either that or have a MSDN subscription.

I would say you'd have to be a paying developer or a MVP.

I remember seeing bootleg copies of Vista betas around several Chinese cities for about 7RMB (around 1.31 NZD)... I guess you could count it as an alternative way, illegal (pirated) but still an alternative I guess.

Yes, MVPs are automatically in the beta, but also people who previously trialed other software for Microsoft got in.

it does feel a little more snappy then XP in a lot of ways and I like the transitions (when you open and close windows etc).

I tried doing an upgrade of XP first - talk about the longest install you ever did, about 1.5 hours I think.

had a few issues with apps after that so did a clean install instead and everything is going well.

I've heard that there was a lot of changes made between the last XP beta and the final product? and I can see where some improvements are needed here also. Like having to allow yourself to make chages everytime you open a properties dialog box.

But stealing is legal - after all the catholic church have no issues download copies of South Park off the internet to watch it..

I've installed 5308 and am loving it so far, however i am having a few issues with that maybe somebody can help me with.
. Drivers will not install ie printer, sound card etc.
. Cannot get virus scan to install, i have trend micro interent security 2006, but it says it doesnt support the platform, does anybody know any way around this?
. And it also seems to run quite slow on my PC, did a clean install, i have a 3200+, 1Gb etc top end PC

I know its still beta but anybody got any ideas on this and a virus scan that will work?

Have you tried the Windows OneCare Live beta?

When you join the Vista Beta you will find instructions on how to join the privates newsgroups (NNTP). There are some good discussions and suggestions there.

According to this site OneCare is currently incompatible with vista beta! Have to check the disscussions.

Apparantly Avast works, is it any good?

Ok, then... I use Avast at home, but not on Vista - it is a very good software, and free for personal use.

I seemingly have got Vista working right this time. A reformat and install seems to have done the trick, no more crashing. Runs nice and fast. Still a few incompatibility issues but getting there.

Got all the neccesary software installed. Going to really put it through its paces as this is my work PC.

I had the same issues re AV software - its funny that the avast name comes up again as that is one of only a few apps that will run on XP 64bit also.

I've installed the build a few days ago and been using it since, all apps seem to be working well so far, a couple of times I noticed windows not refreshing/repainting properly but thats about it.
