The programme that came with my AVlabs USB tuner isn't much (Hyper Media Centre) and struggles to keep up. Now I realise this my be my elderly computer's fault, but is there a free programme out there that may help me watch the signal more smoothly? (Windows XP SP3)

A search has turned up NVPR, which seems to emanate from good ol' Welly here in NZ.
DScaler, which doesn't mention digital signals.
Freevo.

Assuming you're trying to pick up Freeview|HD and not Freeview DVB-S then there isn't much hope if you've got an old PC. You need a minimum dual core machine and GFX card capable of H.264 hardware acceleration - the software you use won't change those requirements as it's the H.264 decoding that requires all the processing power.

Got NextPVR going, but can't get sound. The programme plays recorded video (from another source) okay, but no TV sound. The pictures do seem more stable than Hyper Media though, so it's a start.

You probably need the monogram codec.

You've either not registered the codec correctly or not selected it in NextPVR.

Windows XP SP3.
Dual core @ 1.8G (from memory, I'm not that au fait with this stuff, about 2 yrs old)
4GB ram.
Can't remember graphics card, it's not too bad though, the picture goes fine in nPVR (not so much in the bundled Hyper media).

I downloaded and installed K-lite codec pack, it has quite an array of options, I thought it would help, it has aac options in there. It didn't help.

I'm unsure how to register that codec above properly.
