My desktop exceeds the requirements... And I am already running Windows Vista on a Toshiba M205 Tablet PC (1.5GHz Centrino, 1GB RAM), which is now a two years old hardware.

my laptop need to be upgrade apparently... but it is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 but i can't remember the memory size, i thought it is 128mb.... other than that, my system is ready. Except the Novatel Merlin U630 driver.

Internet is my backyard...

I've had computers capable of running vista before anyone even heard of it. The only reason people think that it needs a lot of juice is because their big brand PC (i.e. HP, Dell, Gateway, most laptops..) doesn't have a true graphics card. Only some Intel extreme graphics crap that is just a fancy name for an intergrated 2D shared memory video controller.

Anyone who plays anysort of serious game on their PC can run it easily.

Only thing I worry about is will Vista upgrade from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Vista, or will I have to do a clean install like you have to with 64 bit XP. I hate reinstalling games, programs and having to backup all my savegames, documents and settings!

I would bet pretty much everything i own that 32bit XP wil not upgrade to Vista 64bit because really that would being like trying to upgrade it to MacOS. The 32 and 64 bit versions are well just that.... 32 and 64bit. Not compatible.

Unless of course anyone wants to prove me wrong

The Intel integrated graphics isn't that hot, agreed, but tested a bunch of dual core laptops recently with those sorts of adapters and was able to run Vista on them without much ado. Wouldn't use it for games though, and older integrated graphics... forget it.

Not possible from what I can tell. If you create a dual boot system, you may be able to use the file and settings transfer wizard or command line tool and shift stuff between XPx86 and Vista64, but you still have to reinstall the apps. Blogged about migration issues, which are really becoming a big PITA because apps are huge and people have such a lot installed. Fixing that issue would be a "killer app" for Vista. (Did I hear anyone say Google Pack?)

I can appreciate the fact that technology is advancing rapidly and I am agnostic to Vista, but if computers require a hardware upgrade to display a pretty clock and start menu, that probably spells 'time to switch to OS' to alot of people.

And why can't Vista 64-bit provide 32-bit binary compatibility like 64-bit Linux does with a chroot jail?? Also the 64-bit PowerPC Architecture contains support for the complete 32-bit PowerPC architecture. Microsoft have lost the plot!

For example, XGL in X.org on Linux looks friggin awesome, barely detriments my overall performance and I dont need a radeon 9-million to experience it (my celeron & 64mb-geforce4mx is quite capable, ie 60+fps multiple alpha blended windows).

I admit I'm a Linux & OSS fan-boy, but not without good reason.

Anyway how many people are going to order the free Vista beta 2 public DVD when it is released?

I certainly will as my spare HDD is just itching to get something new installed on it. Also good to get my geek skills up to speed with the new layout and interface of Vista for all those poor people who need there new Vista machine fixed.

I have already downloaded it from MSDN. I am not installing the new build until coming back from Singapore - I need my Tablet PC working without any surprises...

Anyone had any difficulty activating Office 2007 Beta 2? I just installed it, the installation took a while, and it's up and running but am unable to activate it though. keep saying "unable to find internet connection.... please try a few minutes later"
