Hello guys,

I am not sure how many of you actually use/have MCE 2005. But i will try my luck seeking for wee help on about this.

I am looking to give my MCE a reinstall (simply because my WMP doesn't want to work with my PMC and it's about time i do something about it so i can get my recorded TV sync over to my Creative PMC). I know where the Recorded TV is stored, and I know how to point MCE to store the newly Recorded TV files to, however, will it be just fine if i just do copy & paste of the existing Recorded TV to the new location?

Also, if i do reinstall, will the new installation be able to playback the existing recorded tv without hiccup?

I do hope someone have some answer on how to achieve this without too much hiccup.

Cheers.

Why do a reinstall? surely it's just a config. problem. I suspect, although I don't know for sure, if you copy and paste your media to a new partition MCE will not be able to relocate the files without all kinds of DRM nonsense.
I don't know if I've helped but at least you got a reply. Good luck.

I have tried everything and no forum or even supports from Microsoft could fix, so decided will have to reinstall to see whether that will fix or not.

As far as the DRM issue, i don't think it should matter, and i mean, what if someone had lots of recorded media, and stored on separate partition and their main OS partition crashed and need to reinstall, it'd be silly if they can't or no longer able to access the recorded media from a separate partition.

With my MCE, it is set up as single partition with OS and Data. which i hate a lot. so am looking at getting media separated from OS.

But would like to hear more about whether the media will be picked up and recognised by MCE after reinstallation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is'nt MCE based on XP? ie just another GUI pasted on top, a la win 3.11 over DOS?
All we need is the source code and we can figure it out.

the MCE interface is an UI overlay designed for remote control. and it is build based on XP Pro. but that's windows xp side.

though the sync system is still WMP10 technology to connect to PMC devices.
