I had been of the impression that we would see a release of a beta version of IE10 in September which did not happen and can find no possible future date indicated.

anyone heard anything?

The release cycle for IE9 was set at 8 weeks. They changed it to 12 weeks for IE10 once IE9 was released. IE10 on Windows 8 is platform preview 3. Next platform preview release should be out soon and hopefully will also make its way to Windows 7.
