Hey there,,
I'm having a problem with my computer's desktop.
When I turn my computer on, it takes about 2 hours to load, then once loaded and I log on, it doesn't show my desktop. Instead it has a black screen and a message saying "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022)." I have opened task manager but the same message pops up. Nothing will load, there is no start menu.
I've tried to boot up in safe mode and it works, but from there I have no clue how to fix this problem.
Please help, I'm so frustrated >:(

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/au/ download the software and run a full antivirus scan.

Download on your friend's PC, copy to a USB memory key and run from there.

I tried doing that, and it won't work :(. It requires an internet connection to scan.

The Microsoft tool will create a bootable CD - you should do this in your friend's PC, then use that CD to boot your PC and run the scan. It is used exactly when you can't boot your PC, which is your case.

You will need a blank CD. You will run the tool to create a bootable CD.

Please read the instructions in that page again.

Once it's ready to run you will do a FULL scan. No reason to be quick now. You want to see if there's anything wrong with your PC. You can't save time on this.

Ok, so this leaves out hardware problems.

Are you running Windows 7? You could boot in Safe Mode, run Memory Diagnostics and let it run overnight to make sure memory is ok.

If memory is ok, hard drive could be next... I hope you have a backup. You could unplug the HDD from your PC, plug into an external enclosure and copy contents to another drive.

After that I would recommend running a full test on your HDD while on that external connection. If all ok, then perhaps plug back into your PC and doing a full Windows reinstall.

No, vista. Ok so how do I run Memory Diagnostics?
I don't have a backup unfortunately. How do I unplug the HDD from my pc? And also how do I run a test in my HDD?
Sorry I don't know much about computers.

In this case I think you should consider taking it to a technician then. Whatever they will have to do will take less time and they will have the tools.

Hmm I thought about that but it costs too much. Guess I'll have to do it anyway. Thanks for your help
