mooseman001: ok just another quick qestion..is windows7 in a ntfs format or a fat32..just i use my laptop to burn off large files onto 8.5gb dual layed discs and if it has too be ntfs format then i might not do it..just imgburn requires to have a fat32 format i think to do wat i wanna do

You've got things the wrong way round, fat32 cannot handle files larger than 4 gig in size. NTFS does not have that limitation.

Just make sure you can get all the drivers for your hardware, especially the video card drivers otherwise you may have issues like not waking up from sleep and such like .
Laptop OEM's are very bad at not supporting new OS's, they want you to buy a new one.
Windows 7 is a much better OS and may well have all the drivers built-in.

Did you fully update Vista, incl SP2? It got a lot better with the later service packs.

Ja. All the hdd flashing may be windows update downloading the service packs etc from windows update. that will go on for maybe days.

Also go into system properties > advanced > performance> settings

and from the options select adjust for best performance - that turns off all the ui eye candy.

Before you go too far, make sure the HDD is OK, run a SMART test, I have found a lot of slow computers have failing hard drives.

This is the one I use

If there are errors you need to back up your data and replace the HDD.

Also, Do not use AVG / Nortons or McAfee Antivirus, they slow your machine down.

I use NOD32 ( paid ) or Microsoft Security Essentials ( free )
