Will it work on Windows Phone 7 at all?

This is interesting. It will not be called Xbox music. It will be called Zune pass because existing Windows phone 7x devices already have Zune music and media player. You will be be able to get the same music subscription features as Xbox music.

What's interesting is that whether will need to be added via 7.8 update or they can magically make appear the Zune music pass link in Windows phone devices for 7.0 and 7.5 users. Windows 7 and Windows phone 7.x customers will continue to make use of Zune software.

Xbox Music along with Xbox SmartGlass update has been released for NZ and is available in the Windows store now. You can now browse and buy music :-)

you mean the zune link? Zune.net has disappeared off the face of this planet since couple of days ago. It's all Xbox music now. Below link or something along that will me made live for NZ customers on 26th October. Xbox 360 will be receiving a major dashboard update tonight or tomorrow for NZ customers that will have Xbox music hub added. Windows 8 users in NZ should now be able to stream music though via the Xbox music Windows 8 app if they have downloaded the latest update for it from Windows store.

If you have Windows 8 RTM, then music AFAIK is installed by default as one of the apps. If not, you can go to Windows store and download it from there. it's called Xbox music.

FYI - if you have Win8 installed - you should be able to go to the store and update your Music app to the final one that has free music streaming and a cloud collection.

A couple of notes:

If you add music to your collection - it will show up on another Win8 machine automatically.

If you have a premium subscription (rather than the free one) it will show up on your win8 phone (though that's not out yet) and xbox360 (xbox360 is playlists at this point). You'll also get rid of the occasional advertisements and be able to download the music for offline playback.

With the smart glass app on Win8 you can control the xbox360 like a remote touch pad/controller or send content to or from the xbox360 & win8 machine - e.g. send the video you're watching to the xbox360, or start playback of a party playlist you assembled on the win8 machine on the xbox360

So, how exactly do we go about getting a Zune Pass for WP7?

I signed up for the 30 day trial of Xbox Music, though I have no idea how I can start using it?

I have a Windows Phone 7 and Windows 7 PC but don't see any option under Zune for marketplace or anything.

I know it's not 'available' for 7 devices but I assumed signing up for Xbox Music would enable the Zune Pass on them. Music does not show up under Marketplace on the Zune software.

Does the phone need to update to enable Zune Pass?

Same issue.
Quite happy with my WP7 phone, no real need to update, tried an Xbox music pass for amonth (got an Xbox and Windows RT tablet) and was hoping to see music options appear in Zune marketplace, but still just the movies.
Xbox says WP7 music pass supported for WP7, just not all the features. i wonder if this was only in the countries that already had zune music pass.
My guess is that zune is not going to get any music in it in NZ, and hence now WP7 support.
Shame really, will prob continue with spotify for now.
