nathan: are you up to date with the latest Outlook 2013 updates?

a bunch of IMAP synch breaking bugs were fixed in the September release

and performance improvements coming in SP1 which is shipping shortly

I'm using Outlook 2010 and did see a bunch of updates the other day (quite a few office ones), but IMap is still rather un-functional (as to say how it works on the IPhone for example).  Am using 8.1 (ok preview) and would argue about your definition of the word 'improvement'  on the principle that I still can't send email via Hotmail due to a certificate error (I must point out that I am waiting for the release to see if we get a working set of certs before registering this as a defect).

I would move to Office 2013 in an instant, were it not for the slight issue of only being able to install on one device (whereas Office 2010 allows me to install on desktop and laptop) and the privilege of paying more for not being able to do so - and I have no desire to use cloud anything (or Office 365). :)

I found the move from 2007 to 2013 made outlook imap unusable. 2007 was at least working even if it had that dumb modal non cancealable dialog when moving 1000s of emails into an imap folder from a local PST or between imap accounts, it would eventually work.

2013 I found would stop working, would often not delete things and when moving things around I would just end up with duplicates of them. Not fun. Am on thunderbird now which isnt as nice as 2007 was for most things, but a hell of a lot better than 2013.

With Office 2010 you can install it on 2 devices for $400 odd (whatever the price is now) and you don't have to pay a yearly fee even after 10 years.  :)

I'm not knocking office 365 - I think it is a great product for those that it has benefits for.  It would just have been nice to still have the old option for those of us that don't or cant benefit from it (or are willing to pay subscription fees due to having other commitments).

It is actually once device (primary) and one portable device.  So long as it is the same user that uses either of them.  The net effect is one can have it on a PC and laptop and not have to pay for two $800 dollar licenses for the same thing (ok, here you can actually use both licenses at the same time whereas in 2010 its only one at a time).

I have yet to figure out how the US$ price which is 399 turns into 800 odd NZ.  I wonder what exchange rate Microsoft are using.

Is there any new information on the IMAP issue with Outlook 2013.

My wife has several accounts, one POP and the others IMAP which she has on her desktop running Outlook 2010 and they all work with 2010 but on her laptop running 2013 there is one IMAP account that will not download emails.  You can send from that account OK.

The accounts that work OK are associated with Windows Live, the one that won't work is from another email server.

If you send a test email everything shows that the account is working properly but the test email is never received on the laptop even though it shows up on the desktop.

Are there any fixes or do I need to set it up as a POP account?

Thanks for any help.

The only thing I have to offer on the subject is AVG (the antivirus) would prevent Outlook 2013 from syncing my IMAP gmail account on Windows 8.

I could reproduce the problem by uninstalling/reinstalling AVG.

Since I'm not a huge AVG fan I switched to Avast and have had no issues since.

We're not using AVG.  We use MSE.

Some very helpful information here.

http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/news/general/imap-issues-affecting-outlook-2013-and-office-365-functionality

I unchecked the "Show only subscribed folders" box and the problem was fixed for me.  I couldn't find the option as it was described in the article, I had to go via a different route.

It's a pity Microsoft couldn't provide this info on their site.
