Try em Client. I moved my parents to this after they were having huge problems with Windows Live Mail. They find it just does what they need and doesn't get in the way.

Windows built in client doesn't recognise website links which is a giant PITA. Live Mail has issues with XTRA if your poor end user is still using that. I have had a client who regularly has issues with the live mail client and Xtra.

Thunderbird or the built in client. Hopefully Microsoft will fix the link issue soon.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

surfisup1000:

Why not allow resizeable columns anyway?

Another thing - the photo app -- it does not display photos in subfolders.

So , my neatly date arranged photo folders don't work in the photo app.

I suspect that the answer to both of these is that these are new apps, built from scratch, and it will take a while to get every possible feature back into them.  The latest release of the mail app added a LOT of UI enhancements and features, and i'm sure the next update will add even more.

this only affects incoming plain text emails. Yes i agree its a pain. It is a known issue that will be fixed.

+1 for Em Client.. my mum uses it without bugging me too often, so it must be easy to use.

That's great Nathan. Glad to know it is in process. Once this is fixed I will use that client 100%. Ironically enough the main issue is Geekzone replies!

MackinNZ: Actually it does come with a mail app installed and it's very good.

....

scuse me
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-NZ/windows-8/pop-email-accounts
"The Mail app, which comes with Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, doesn't support adding email accounts that use POP"

What sort of BS is this
"If you want to use the Mail app and keep your current account, contact your email provider and ask if they can change your account to use IMAP"

So no pop3 support, out of the box.
What were they thinking.

I'd recommend Outlook.
It will save alot of future grief when you upgrade to a new PC in a few years & want to move your email to the new PC.

+2 to EMClient.

I have moved a few clients across to it (from Outlook). It is much better than Outlook. Thunderbird isnt a option as it has some funny design decisions.

Probably that keeping all your mail on a single device is really inconvenient, and a good way to lose all your mail.   I try and migrate any users that will listen to a server hosted mail solution of some kind so that they can see all their mail on any devices they have.. so they have the same thing on their desktop, laptop, phone and tablet.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

Indeed especially when free email products like Outlook.com can pull in your email from POP3 mailservs

If she's using a gmail address it may be worth checking out Mailbird too. I was a Sparrowmail user on the Mac and loved it. Mailbird is someone's effort to replicate that app on Windows. It's not mature yet though, but I haven't had any issues with it.
