mattwnz: Apparently there is a way to get updates for xp, as they are still being released for those organisations prepared to pay for them.

I don't know if Wellington DHB has an upgrade program in place but the monitors I saw last week at Wgtn Hospital were all showing XP Pro screen savers.

Ditto the Boeing assembly plant in Seattle a few weeks ago....

Rickles: I read somewhere that there are still 400 million copies of XP still running .... mostly in corporate situations where a complete O/S replacement roll out would be prohibitively expensive.
These places will wait until their hardware gives out, and then get wholesale machine and O/S replacements at that time.

These corporation may also have purchased special support from Microsoft. However any update or patches will only exclusively to these special paid corporate customers, not consumers. And these patches will have to be real exception bugs or security risks.

Boeing plant looked like standard PC's, but I couldn't be really sure - you don't get too close to the action on the factory tour
