Yeah I have had it half a dozen times now, I haven't managed to figure out what triggers it.

If you're quick enough, the link on the popup takes you to Windows Update.

Is this what you're seeing if you click on it?

No, clicking on it just takes me to Windows Update, although I haven't seen it for a while now, so maybe next time it will...

Pretty interesting link though :)

paulmilbank: I just got this on a desktop and laptop. Now have an icon in the system tray which gives info about Windows 10 coming. Just don't install KB3035583 if you don't want to see it.

That explains it then... I have 3035583 installed.

antoniosk: I got this too.

Happy to install on one of my laptops, but would prefer to download the ISO for other machines and install at leisure.

Are Vista users part of the free upgrade?

no sorry the cut off is Windows 7 users

A friend of mine just got this and I concluded that it was some form of malware due to the wording. Why does it say that you need to "reserve" an upgrade? Isn't it available for a year?

From MS
"When you reserve, you can confirm your device is compatible with Windows 10. Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade."
link

The "push" notification came with a windows update that was not patched to  < win 7 sp1 or win 8.1.

MS had better have got this one right - their future is hanging on it.

I thought it was malware when I first heard about it. But it's not.
The good news is that if you get the "upgrade" message, then you qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 10.
It is available for a year (if you have Win7 or Win8 installed).
Presumably this is Microsoft's way of encouraging early adopters and managing the huge amount of data transfer required.

It would be good if the icon would disappear automatically after you reserve your copy.
