WHy does this have to be so difficult?

Ok i followed the link and put the windows 10 file onto a USB drive as per the software.

Now i cant get my pc to boot up via the USB drive.

In Bias even if i manually put USB drive to 1st in the list, nothing happens.

What am i doing wrong?

I even tried disabling every other boot up option just leaving USB active and still does not work.

Does it boot in another machine?

Is it a bootable USB or did you copy the ISO on? You need to copy the contents of the ISO not the ISO itself

Yea it booted from another PC.

This gets more confusion - does anyone have any idea whats going on at this point?

I was able to somehow boot from the USB drive by going into Setup and selecting "Change Boot Mode Setting".

In there, i selected "Legacy; secure boot: off"

Now when the computer starts, it launches form USB drive i beleive as i no longer get the error page and am now presented with Windows Install options.

This was great, or so i thought....

As i go through the setup, skip activation key, it then asks me how i want to install Windows. The 2 options provided are:

Upgrade, install Windows and keep files, settings and applications.

Or

Custom. install Windows only (advanced).

Long story short, neither option work.

If i click on Upgrade, it gives me an error message saying "The computer started using the Windows installation media.Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally.Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade.(Do not select Customer (advanced) to perform an upgrade. Customer advance installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings."

If i click on Custom, it then brings me to a screen to pick what partition to install Windows on. Every partition gives an error saying "Windows cannot be installed on drive X partition X". If i click on more info, i get an error box pop up saying "Windows cannot be installed on this disc. The selected disc is of the GPT partition file."

The only other option is to go right back to the beginning of the install and click on "Repair your computer".

After doing this, i get two options:

Troubleshoot or Turn off your computer.

If i click on Troubleshoot, it gives me two more options - "reset this PC" or "advanced options".

When i click on Reset this PC, two further options are provided:

"Keep my files"

Error msg: "Unable to reset this PC. A required partition is missing."

"Remove everything"

Error message "The drive where Windows is install is locked. Unlock the drive and try again"

So i now go back and try selecting "Advanced options" and am provided with these options with corresponding errors:

System Restore - To use system restore you must specify which Windows installation to restore.Restart this compute,r select an operating system and select system restore"

System Image Recovery - Windows cannot find a system image on this computer.

Startup repair - loops back to start of Windows install

Go back to the previous build - We ran into a problem and wont be able to take you back to the previous build.

Command prompt - brings up command prompt box

There we have it, so any idea what all this means and how i can go about fixing it? All this form just trying to install a clean copy of Windows 10 after a successful migration from 8.1!

Do i need to take it to a PC tech? Replace hard drive perhaps?

Make sure on the SATA AHCI is enabled in the BIOS and see if it boots.

Although now that I read what you have done it may be too late, worth a try though.

They will most likely charge you as it's a software issue.

THINK I FOUND A RESOLUTION!!!

Going back to trying to install Windows again, when i clicked on "Custom. install Windows only (advanced)." as my post above, i got an error when selecting a partition saying: "Windows cannot be installed on drive X partition X".

I found a forum post advising to do the following from: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1948092/windows-installed-drive-partition.html

"at the screen where it ask you to choose which drive to install Windows on, press Shift+F10 and a DOS window should open

type: diskpart
type: list disk (you should see only Disk0)
type: sel disk 0
type: clean

close the DOS window

click on Refresh, select the disk that is listed, and click Next"

This got me past this hurdle and now Windows is installing..... will update later.

I only hope this can help someone else suffering a similar issue!
