JWR:

But, surely the mouse wheel is most used for scrolling?

Wheel sucks on long pages.

Agreed.

But, I did say 'For very long pages, it (scrollbar) is also useful for navigation.'

On the desktop I only ever use the wheel when I am reading text. Anything else, like scrolling a gallery etc I will use the scrollbar. Ergonomics on a wheel are crap. Never got why they dont put it on the side of the mouse where your thumb rests. Hell, even a wheel that scrolled horizontally above the buttons would be better than the finger straining vertical scrollwheel.

My mouse thumb 'rests' over 12 buttons. So, I wouldn't be in favour of putting a scroll wheel there:)

I guess it all ends with what you get used to or what you train yourself to get used to.

At the front of the 12 buttons on the naga would be an ideal place for one. I find I keep pressing the buttons on it by accident so have the top 3 bound to nothing in anycase.

linw: Reg entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/Windows Metrics.  The value I found for ScrollBarWidth was -255.  Try -350.

Finally got around to this on the laptop that needed it. Thanks very much.
