Quoting what is available there,

Intel® EM64T requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel EM64T. Processor will not operate (including 32-bit operation) without an Intel EM64T-enabled BIOS. Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations. Any idea how would I find that ? (marked in RED)

check for latest bios, or read what's been updated in the latest bios update... and you can always try an installation of Vista x64.

It wouldn't be a surprise. From my times with mainframes, since 1984 to these days things don't seem to change.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that many times companies would pay millions of dollars for a mainframe with [x] processing capacity. They would buy an upgrade to a more powerful machine [x * 2] capacity and wait for the technician to show up to "install" the new hardware.

Sometimes the "installation" was just removing a circuit and that "automagically" would make the machine go faster.

Why the companies wouldn't just sell the faster one for the same price is beyond me...

I am not saying it is the case. But it would be strange using a 64 bit processor on a 32 bit board (one without the 64 bit BIOS)... It makes you think.

hmm...I just put my Vista 64 bit installation DVD and it went till selecting the partition....so I think I can confirm things are 64 bit...

Now, why didn't Dell inform this when I bought? Dell even bundled only 32 bit Vista Business along with it...strange that they dont even tell at any place that its 64 bit compatible!

Probably because it would scare the masses. You have no idea what kind of stress the choice between 32 and 64bit causes to average Joe.

Anyone who would knows enough to be interested in x64 should know that any CPU sold in the time since Vista was released is 64bit (a little bit of research before buying something is always wise). I haven't seen any motherboards for quite some time that don't support it either.
