Yep that's the one expect in my parents case ipconfig /renew didn't fix it nor did a reboot (and yes - we did a full reboot, not the half-arsed Windows 10 one).

What do you mean by this? From what I read this morning after lurking this thread win10 restart is a full shutdown & startup vs fast boot via regular shutdown.

Ah yes sorry this is what I mean but holding Shift during startup (wasn't sure if it mattered during a reboot but doing phone support to parents here). To be perfectly honest I've been using Linux until very recently when I built a PC for gaming so wasn't 100% sure when Windows does a quick boot vs a full boot.

Ah. I've been using win7 until recently and always disable hibernate, I had no idea about fast boot or shift to full boot until this thread.

I just thought there might be something more interesting going on (to a full reboot), kinda glad to see there's not :).

Fastboot is enabled by default. You can disabled in the Power settings. A shutdown always use Fastboot (if enabled) while a restart will reset everything.

Disabling hibernate (powercfg /h off) also disables fastboot though, yeah? Also read today about (powercfg /h /type reduced), to disable full hibernate but not fastboot?

Not sure I want fastboot though, between an Intel 600p drive now and WoL from my phone (including automatically when my alarm goes off in the morning) it seems rather pointless.

This issue in 1607 was fixed in this morning’s Windows 10 Quality Update
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4004227/windows-10-update-kb3206632

Addressed a service crash in CDPSVC that in some situations could lead to the machine not being able to acquire an IP address.

I dont think this is isolated to just windows 10 - had a work computer running win7 show very similar signs of the internet crawling to a halt on ethernet but wifi working fine. A release & renew sorted the problem.

Heya

Wonder if anyone knows - had 2 instances (both my parents laptop and also a laptop I have) of the update KB3201845 breaking networking (both WiFi and Ethernet). The WiFi / Ethernet connects however no internet activity passes through. This is potentially bad especially in my parents case since I can't remote support to fix it.

Anyone else seen this issue + know of a fix?

Edit: Just found a fix... Maybe I should try and Google more:

Go into cmd.exe and type the following:

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
ipconfig /renew

Alternatively uninstall and reinstall. i found one case required a driver update from the Ms driver update process as well.
