On these big updates, there've been two or three, in some ways it's like a fresh OS install with a multitude of things reset. Network is a big one.

I don't know what a "feedback hub" is, though I just typed it in and found it on the start menu. I don't do insider builds, I actually now turn off feature updates where possible until others have worked out the kinks. So I can give feedback, but late.

What I'm most looking forward to is Creators update coming to Server 2016.

Shocked?  Me too.  Checked Windows update on my Server 2016 Standard box today.

Almost lost for words.

I am so excited for 3D Paint on my Server Clusters!

Yup. A new version of notepad would be a better present.

settings being reset are bugs that we would fix if we knew about them by being told about them by logging Feedback thru Feedback Hub.

None of my settings get reset and I upgrade Windows 10 ~5 times a week

Otherwise just moan on here and wait for someone else to submit their Feedback.

If it happens, I'll submit the bug. I've deferred updates though so it won't be for a while, if it happens.

Well, I'd give feedback that for the 6th time since the upgrade I can't open my start menu on both screens, but I can't to the feedback app! Luckily I know I can restart Windows Explorer to fix it. So I opened the feedback app, it's asking for Login, and low and behold the sign in button does NOTHING when clicked.

Rather than sarcasm and tone (which to me comes across as a little combative), you might consider a little empathy for the people who's productivity is affected by the problems we experience (and the time we spend on insider builds and using the feedback app).

For the record, I place feedback in the feedback app when I can confirm the issue isn't isolated to just me and my environment. This thread is to for people to collectively get some idea on stability and issues they might experience to help others in the community decide if the creators update is for them, or they should wait.

So far, my experience leads me to suggest wait.

Yes we uninstall incompatible software and try to reinstall compatible versions. Possibly choose to use an AV vendor that is modern.

Is there any way to know what particular software will be uninstalled prior to it actually being uninstalled?

It is very hard in an enterprise to keep 15000+ devices at a modern version of every application.

sorry for the tone, I'm trying to help and this will be my last reply.

you can provide as much feedback using that Feedback Hub app as you like.  Feel free to share the FB hub link for your feedback with me and I can even escalate.

Your Start Menu problems are not normal at all, they are very rare.  If they were common we would not release.

I would start with the troubleshooter
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12385/windows-10-troubleshoot-problems-opening-start-menu-cortana

Generally Start Menu problems are configuration problems

  • Applocker that didn’t have the correct configuration and was blocking everything.
  • misconfigured whitelist/blacklist tools like Bit9 or Carbon Black
  • Windows configuration changed to unsupported defaults like Windows Firewall disabled
  • custom registry policy that blocks all packaged applications from accessing the registry
  • misconfigured GPOs applying against the machine
  • misconfigured permissions on the HKCR\AppID
  • the Start Menu is essentially a Modern App - sometimes users deploy registry settings that set suboptimal permissions on the registry.  The issue is caused by removing the “All Application Packages” object which requires read access in the registry Hives for modern apps to work.

Providing feedback thry the Feedback Hub all will collect the right sort of logs to allow a Microsoft engineer

gzt:  ... Yup. A new version of notepad would be a better present.

But, but, but ....  You get a new version with every OS upgrade. innocent

It just has the same features and functionality as the original Notepad. Nothing extra! tongue-out

Thanks, I'll check those things. It's a shame you don't want to hang around though. It's worth noting however, that I had issues with the start menu for a while at the start of Windows 10 deployment, it went away I think after one of the big updates last year, and it's been good since, the only thing that has changed on my PC between working and not, is the update. Yes, I'll place feedback about that, once I can get the app working!

I have a couple of test machines here, a Laptop and a Desktop both running 15063. The only issue I have is with the laptop where Edge will stop responding. I have reported this.

I think it's a known issue, I know it was in the notes of a recent insider build.

Hoping when the Enterprise version is released to the VL system, I can create an VM of my current laptop and apply the update and see if it gives me a crap ton of unwanted apps that I have removed and resets my preferences (laptop is currently running 1511 build - with all the issues around WSUS and Cumulative Updates that were introduced in 1607, I gave up on all testing)

Installing the update now - if you want to get it a week before just run the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant.

Why oh why did they remove Control Panel as an option when you right click the start menu?
And Paint 3D? That's very useful. Not.
