After installing Windows 7 RC you may have problems with Windows Update not finding drivers for some video cards or other devices. If you have this problem then use http://catalog.update.microsoft.com to manually find drivers.

Downloading it now... going quite slowly unfortunately.
I would say that the masses are well and truly getting to it. Lucky Microsoft has fat pipes.

I quite enjoyed using build 7000. How are the people who already have 7100 (the RC) finding it?

7100 is far better than 7000 (in my humble opinion)

Its far more stable, smoother and way faster.
Media Center is more functional too (Movies folder as an example)

I will give it another couple days trial, then I will likely rip out Vista alltogether...its stable and functional enough to run as main OS

Cheers Bartender.
About halfway through downloading now. Speed has picked up a lot. Computer went to sleep last night - wasn't meant to, but I forgot to change settings.

You I finished downloading last night.. all finished in 7 hours. Will be installing tonight :) looking forward to it..

Just a quick question about the install..

Should I:

A - Partition one of my 500GB hard drives and install Win7 RS1 on the new partition.
B - Buy a new hard drive to install Win7 RS1
C - Buy a fast USB key and install Win7 RS1 onto that and run it
D - Format my install of Vista 64bit Prem and install Win7 RS1 onto that hard drive as my main OS.

Any feed back would be great. Also is there an easy way to make your PC dual booting ?

Just downloaded the 64bit version using link from my technet email, started at half 8 this morning and took about an hour and a half, going at about 650k second. I'm with xnet, so i'm thinking it's comming off their cached servers?

Depends on whether the technet download used akamai or not. I know the public download did. (doing an nslookup of wb.dlservice.microsoft.com resolved to 58.28.25.8/58.28.25.9)

Used that Java based Akamai download manager too - same as Adobe.

Finished downloading some time today. Going to install it now.

AmooMan, personally I would partition and install it there or buy a new HDD. MS don't recommend using any beta/RC software as your primary/production system.

You could do any one of those options, it just comes down to personal preference.

But having said that, I would recommend creating a partition, and installing it on that...

That way, you can trial it, and should you not like it, or something goes wrong, you can easily rvert back to your original OS.

And that answers your last question...to make a dual booting system is easy...

If you were to make a partition and install Windows 7 on that, and you DO NOT format the partition/drive that has your original OS on it, then Windows will automatically recognise there are 2 operating systems on the computer (on different partitions/drives) and as such makes the system a dual booting system....you do not need to do anything in particular.

Thanks for reply.. I went with 'A' quickly' split one of my drives and made a new partition.
Was very easy to install Windows7 !! ended up downloading the 32bit ISO. Should have tried but 64bit ISO.. but ohh well..

Use Windows 7 for about 20mins and LOVE IT !!! far better than Vista so far !! Will try and install some games and test it out more tomorrow :) its great knowing I have over a years free access before it runs out in Jun 2010 :)

OK thought I would wait a bit before commenting on Windows 7.

I am running it on my media centre only as I will not be putting it on my main PC. Not because I do not want to but because I cannot justify the cost of buying two copies.

My setup is two HVR-3000’s setup for Freeview DVB-S and a HVR-2200 with one tuner configured for Freeview DVB-T and the other connected via s-video to our Telstra digital STB.
I have a blu-ray drive with Total Media Theatre 3 installed (also TMT2 but only for fault finding).

I have to say I have been blown away by just how good Media centre is under W7. I was running VMC with the TV pack. Prior to the TV pack it had been quite reliable but of course only able to handle Freeview DVB-S and even then only after hacking it. Once I installed the TV pack I got DVB-S and analogue but the reliability went out the window. Part of that was due to a faulty HVR-2200 (since been replaced) but even when I took that out and was just running DVB-S it was still far less stable then pre TV pack.

W7 on the other hand even though only in release candidate is really very very good. It has been reliable and it was relatively a breeze to setup (you still need to know a bit about what you are doing). The only “hack” I had to use was the software to merge the epg data for the Telstra channels and that is not really a hack now as Microsoft have allowed access to software developers to hook into the epg side of W7 MC.

The only issue I currently have is that there is something funky going on with my Soundblaster Audigy and TMT. I am not sure if the issue is with the driver, W7 or TMT but I am sure it will get sorted so will live without the back speakers for now. It was working in build 7068.

Well done MS!!Cool
