I was looking to set up a remote access system for my home PCs but then I realised that Microsoft's Live Mesh already includes it! Seems to work fine for me.

+1 for TeamViewer, or plain straight RDP :)

I've had a good experience with Teamviewer to remote admin a mother-in-law's PC.

She's not very IT savvy so it was a good solution for me to get her to deploy the standalone executable and then gain access to help her from the other end of the county.

If you move to Windows 7 I also urge you to look at the inbuilt 'easy connect' feature now bundled with Windows Remote Assistance. I did some testing on this during the beta and found it to be a easy way to provide help to users in other timezones :-)

Teamviewer is fantastic especially for remote assisting users who aren't that knowledgeable.

For a permanent solution if the router supports dyndns setup an account so you can always connect to home. If you use a Openwrt or similar you can SSH Into the router and use wake on lan so when your pc is off you can wake it up then RDP or VNC or whatever you prefer.
