is windows 7 really worth it?
vista is very slow and thats with 4gb ram. :o
w 7 is supposed to be really fast, hopefully retail price drops or a family pack is available sometime soon.

Family pack is not coming to NZ, 64bit 7 will be able to use all of your ram

When I see comments like this I start to worry if that's the only reason that people upgrade. Eye candy.. I saw recently a forum that was discussing W8 and the main requests for for more eye candy..

Haha, the 3 !!!'s meant i was being sarcastic :) i was actually talking to my Mac Specialist colleague and he was complaining about Snow Leopard and all the Apple developers spending more time on the iPhone over SL. So it was a jibe at him and others who get sucked in by the bling

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Just a quick question on a fairly unrelated tangent. With Vista you could use either a 32 or 64 bit disc for any version. The version was based on the key you used. Is this still the case with 7?

Concerning the family pack I notice that MS still have it available on their web store. If you have a US address that you could use you may be able to still buy it and get it sent to you.

Seems to be.. at least I just activated both a 32 and 64 install with the two keys I brought.

Pro for sure!! Comes with a virtual XP machine, only difference about this is it is integrated with the host OS. Much faster, all drives shared and connections and so on..

Also comes with microsoft virtual machine, backup tool..

Few more features, pro is definitely good!! Ultimate has very unnecessary things like bitlock.

OEM and OES *or what ever it is* have 32/64-bit separate. The retail version includes both on the disk.

It may detect cpu bit width, in bios you can change it between 32/64-bit assuming you have a 64-bit cpu.

the win7 enterprise disc gives enterprise as the only install option. changing a couple of files on the DVD media before installing can force it to show the list of home premium, pro, ultimate etc instead (and vice versa).

ah sorry I miss read the question. I thought it was relating to using a key for either 32 or 64 rather then using the media for the different versions.

It was interesting that on the MSDN site you could download the beta's and then install any version from the one DVD but then when the RTM was released the MSDN site has different ISO's for each type. Not sure why they changed.
