Even infected windows 7 runs sweet :P - but seriously dude, you should look at that sooner rather than later, no idea what information your comprimised system is giving away.....

Running Windows 7 Enterprise at work on my 3 year old HP laptop, perfect work tool.  Running Windows 7 Ultimate at home, very nice OS, doesnt have that strange, not-sure-if-I-like-it feeling that vista had.  (kinda like how ME felt)

Yeh that all fixed up now, I eventually reinstalled the whole system because something was resetting my time to 6:66am 1st jan 98 and renaming C to DEATH. But I have no lag now. Really loving it.

b0untypure1: its not compatible with my crusty keyboard

My workmate is running a Versakey keyboard into his Windows 7 install and it runs fine. (it's an AT keyboard that goes into an AT-PS2 converter that goes into a PS2-USB converter).  I was amazed that the keyboard worked at all being so old.

The other good thing about Windows 7 is gaming, the OS doesnt suck too much of the system resouces so games run smoother, and games also tend to exit out cleaner in windows 7 (although I am not sure if this is cause developers have added better support for Vista and 7)

Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit), Norton 2010, Office Pro 2007. here. :)

I changed to Windows 7 after countless annoyances from Vista, and have found it to be amazingly stable and fast. It can happily run Windows XP in a Virtual Machine (using 2 of my 4 cores), WoW, Outlook, Firefox, and a whole raft of other apps at the same time without missing a beat. Alt tabbing between them all is very smooth also. Vista could never do that without lagging and complaining bitterly on the same hardware.

Here is a question, has anyone compared their performance rating between Vista and 7? Would be interesting to see if there is any difference. Logic dictates that there should be no difference at all....

There's a small difference in ratings though... They measure in slightly different ways it seems.

I was surprised to get a new laptop with Windows 7 and find that it looks pretty much like it's running Gnome's panel applet. That was wierd ...

Windows 7 running flawlessly on

Home laptop (x64) with Office 2010 Beta
Home HTPC (x64)
Work Laptop (x64) with Office 2010 Beta
Mum's PC (x86) upgraded from Vista
Brother inlaws Laptop (x86) upgraded from Vista
and a VM on Home server (x64)

Most have moved from Vista to 7 without any issues, not that I minded Vista SP2. No real issues with it.

As for performance ratings, most of my PC's have gone up, but I am not reading into that as the scoring system seems to have moved from a high of 6 to now reach 8.

A new work PC, i7 2.66ghz, 12GB DDR3, Super Talent 64GB trim enabled SSD, with ATI 5750 only scores 7.2 based on the lowest scores of desktop graphics, gaming graphics, and hard disk. Memory and processor are 7.6 and 7.5.

cheers

Hi all...it seems you all have windows 7 working fine.
i managed to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate and is working great!!!!....but......main reason was so that i can install windows XP mode....alas! my processor does not support hardware visualisation...so back to square one. What a shame got toshiba A500 intel core 2duo processor P7350@2Ghz 4 g ram...what a waste.
An error message came saying'can not start windows virtual PC Host process. check system event log for details
-windows virtual pc require hardware-assisted virtualisation. there is no hardware assisted virtualisation support in this machine" Obviously i have spent a lot of money and time....without any success. Any ideas??
please..

Pretty much you need hardware virtualisation to run XP mode.  You could always upgrade your CPU to one that supports VT (http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=26548)

Got Win7 Ultimate running on a Tosh M400 tablet (32bit) with 4GB RAM, running beta of Office 2010. MUCH more stable than same hardware with Vista, and faster. Love jumplists! Also have Win 7 Pro running on an Acer Aspire One Pro netbook with 2GB RAM and loving the performance. Netbooks are such a good idea!

Been running it since before the Beta (what like 9 months now?) Loving it! The better multimonitor support, the tiny memory footprint, the power management working so when I close the lid of my laptop it actually goes to sleep instead of trying to start a fire in my laptop bag in my carboot.

Mmmmmmmmm. Microsoft deserves a beer for Windows 7.

The guy which project managed Vista got fired and is now writing country music. There is justice in the world.

Have upgraded the family PC to W7, which was a pretty painless process... still with XP on the work laptop though, which is what I tend to use at home.

Only complaint about W7 is that bluray isn't supported - not in media centre anyway...
