Not normally, especially as the particular version in question is interbase is very old. The whole XP requirement here is to avoid upgrading Interbase to a newer compatible version. It's bad enough working with this stuff on an XP computer!

Thanks for above bighammer and jedi, I'm sure there is a solution...don't want to upgrade processors etc. it is a perfectly nice working win7 machine-love it but...my original problem remains-unable to load my softwear under current OS..anymore ideas?..as always...is appreciated

Have you considered VMWARE workstation 7? I just can't see how you will get around not spending some more money :-/ You could always trial the product and see if it suits your needs. It definately will run on your PC....

I know it doesn't help for comparison purposes, but we use vmware within our organization and it's fantastic... I just dont think MS are as good at it yet.

Have Medtech given any indication as to when they'll be releasing a version that also requires an Interbase upgrade? If it's some time soon that will solve everything!

I think I will have to upgrade interbase at a cost- i was told will need x 3 liscences although its only me using it. Have win2000 on "server' and XP pro as workstation and had a laptop for briefcasing running XP which died and replaced with this one-which i upgraded to win7 ultimate in the hope of running XP mode-so i cn use my softwear without having to upgrade interbase and ?perhaps win2000 -win7 on other 2 machines???
and then again not sure if it may work as it is very early days yet -bighammer might know what i mean

Early days and no firm commitment from Medtech. It frustrates and concerns my customers also. You could dual-boot with XP and Windows 7, but this is not the ideal answer. I'm keeping my ear to the ground and will let you know if any announcements are made to engineers.

Medtech has been slow since they shifted staff around....a lot left or got asked to leave.... some talented guys there too at the time I was doing work there.

Things have certainly changed there since I first started supporting the product. Their customers (doctors etc) sure use some choice words when discussing the establishment. Bit of a shame really!

Well, installed medtech on this machine - for borland-interbase just asked to run in XP compatibility mode- interbase server seems to be running ..but...unable to open up the database
errors-10036/0-unknown username/password; 13059/904-unavailable db
I think it just needs some user settings/
Ionly have 2-3 computers, how hard can it be?????
Does this have anything to do with firewall-sonicwall monitored my healthlink- I can see my server from my laptop-so I think it should be ok....working on it

The sonicwall shouldn't be an issue. Have you set a static IP on your notebook? Be aware running Interbase 7 on Windows 7 may result in corruption to the database. No guarantees.

only the server has static IP-notebook set to automatic detection. I can ping server and notebook from server. Something to do with the medtech itself- says interbase server running on laptop and registration successful- but will not open

Shouldn't be any user settings for Medtech itself. If you can edit/save files on the server then it shouldn't be an authorisation problem. Are you trying to access the DB on the server or trying to briefcase? Briefcasing can be a nightmare on it's own.

Yep, medtech does not work well with interbase 8 (which is what runs on vista or 7). Medtech32 will only support verison 7. Sorry dude but you need to run it on xp or you could use RDP/ terminal services to log into server. Ran into same problem with some of the medical centres i look after, will only buy machines which come with xp downgrade (Lenovo).
