try booting off a windows PE / Bart PE to eliminate OS issues; what sort of licensing is involved with your media center; is it dependant on your hardware - did you modify your host with new RAM/HDD or CPU upgrades?
I see this dozens of times a month at the tech shop i work for. 9 times out of 10 its the ram. if you dont have any spare ram remove all sticks apart from one. try one at a time see if you can find a good stick. once you do test the others one at a time until you find the problem
Note it could be all or one stick doing it.
my suggestion is find a stick of new ram and see. or take into pc shop and say can you just try some more ram in here. in our shop we wouldnt charge you anything for that as long as you bought the ram from us.

My Computer has now started randomly rebooting, and now it ALWAYS gives the error message:
Windows could not be started because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
you can attempt to repair this by inserting the original setup CD rom and pressing r at the first screen
Hi Melvin, You do know, this "WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" part of the Registry is (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)?
I like to have my computer, Windows 98 C:\ Windows XP D:\, running a 32-bit file system (Master Boot Record). If I have a problem with drive D:\ I can run Windows 98 SE and fix the registry from there using a backup.
I know, people believe it is not as safe, however, I am not paranoid about internet garbage, I clean my own system. Also use my own backup techniques.
