Hmm, silly question but did you check the hard drive performance of the "Server"?

start -> perfmon

Maybe there is a process hogging the IOPS of the hard drive?

graemeh: When you disabled NOD32 was that on the "server"? The server seems to be the common element here as the support win7 laptop has presumably worked OK at the vendor site.


No, but I will try that too.
I'm not sure if it will help though as the XP workstation doesn't have the speed issue and it is accessing data on the same server.
