richms: Page file is set to 32 gigs on a drive that only also have movies onit, so is never being accessed other than pagefile use unless I am adding to or copying off, which is seldom.

Pagefiles should really be the same size of your memory or a bit bigger. More than this, if it's used it will slow down you system. Add more RAM.

I tried adding more ram, at the time it was a second pair of 2 GB sticks and the machine became unstable unless I massivly underclocked the ram. I am reluctant to put more money into DDR2 now, and it seems that without the problem apps it isnt running out of mystery resource.

Hell, I would expect some form of event to be logged or whatever because of the problems, but the logs show nothing. Maybe the motherboard fairy will drop off a DDR3 capable board and some ram sometime. I can all but hope.

Have you tested the existing memory? Windows 7 allows a reboot directly into memory testing.

Yeah, it passes fine at 800, and the new stuff was fine at 800, together they were unstable and bluescreening during boot or soon after getting to the login screen, turning it back to 533 was fine. 667 worked but I had a couple of bluescreens overnight which I didnt know if it was ram or what, and then I needed ram in another machine so out it came. With the problems finding instock able to be returned if incompatible 4GB sticks, I have basically written off putting more ram into this machine and will just get new mobo etc when I can, but ofcource this CPU wont work in any DDR3 boards etc.
