Classic. I had exactly the same issue when I refreshed Win 8.1 - it restored to 8.0. I think I went through about 18gb of Data with MS Servers that day including updates etc.

Looking forward to hearing about how to update the Recovery Partition.

Kind Regards,

Yesterday I let Skydrive do its thing - uploading all those 20,000 files that already exist in the cloud.

I went to bed last night with only 6,000 files to go. After 30GB uploaded last night I got up this morning to find out it was uploading everything AGAIN with 19,000 files left.

Obviously Skydrive developers didn't think of running a checksum and simply ignore files that already exist in the cloud. It also seems it either doesn't like external storage or Bitlocked storage.

It took me three days of refreshing to Windows 8, installing all updates, updating to Windows 8.1 and then this whole "Skydrive uploading files that already exist in the cloud" crap.

I just shutdown the tablet and won't do anything with this until SP1 is out.

And seriously, if my laptop crashes for any reason I will just reinstall Windows 7.

The Skydrive cloud + integration idea is cute. Doesn't work.

One way to do manual copy safely is copying files After all placeholders(smart files) get synced to the new machine(Win 8.1).

1. Launch SkyDrive
2. Click “Sync” command on the AppBar and wait for progress status become “All files are up to date.”
3. Manually copy files to SkyDrive folder

Done that. Ok, will refresh it one more time. If it craps out, into the box.

this is for manually seeding in your files rather than redownloading, not the other issues you see

Yes, I understand it. It took two days for Windows to install all updates and download Windows 8.1 so it should have all placeholders there already. But yes, will try again.

I'm surprised mine seems to be working fine.

Nathan, are you using a bitlocked external storage (just to confirm this works)?

Ok, refreshed tablet, back to Windows 8, installed updates, installed Windows 8.1. Left tablet on whole night to make sure all placeholders in place, but... there is not "Sync" in the AppBar. I only see "Select all", "New Folder", "Add Files".

Missing something?

Copied over the files and turned "Access all files offline" option ON... It seemed to have worked so far, except now Skydrive has ONE file stuck in "Pending upload" state.

Nathan do you know already if we can use Skydrive on an external bitlocked microSD?

Isn't there a final release of the 'blue' wave of things end of January, sometime

Out of interest, I noticed my skydrive folder has set itself back to online yet again (I need it to always be available offline).  I am thinking of seeing if I can replace it with the Windows Essentials version which I know worked.
