I now have a white Windows icon in the notification area and right clicking on it gives the following:

Clicking on "Get to know Windows 10" gives this link:

shanes: Hi All,

Just sitting on the train browsing, and had a weird popup announcing that Windows 10 is Ready, with what looked to be a Windows Update icon
As I am running on Mobile data I closed it, and now can't find it again...

Does anyone know how and when W10 is being delivered ? I haven't take much notice of it yet... but thought I'd have at least heard that it was coming soon...

Anyone else seen that ?

Aware of that, thanks Nathan, its not my first rodeo with Microsoft OS upgrades. Meant the KB3035583 update that is causing the Win10 ready popup. I figured if someone is running Enterprise, they probably have a WSUS server to manage updates and should be able to block it from ever hitting their clients. I would have thought part of the compatibility check would be running Enterprise = "see your admin" rather than offering an upgrade to the client directly through a popup.

:) that KB targets everything that can upgrade from WU, meanng you won't be offered that update on the Enterprise version, just:

•Windows 8.1 Pro
•Windows 8.1
•Windows 7 Service Pack 1, when used with:
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Starter

Also, anything meeting this criteria won't see the reservation popup

• Enterprise SKU
• Domain Joined
• On an MDM solution

There is also a registry key/group policy to control:

Path: Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update
Title: Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update
Body: Enables or disables the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update. If you enable this setting, Windows Update will not offer you an upgrade to the latest version of Windows. If you disable or do not configure this setting, Windows Update might offer an upgrade to the latest version of Windows.

What happens if after a year we want to do a reinstall? Will there be an ISO to download, will we have to install either 7 or 8 or 8.1 to update it again, and will we be able to update again from 7-8.1, especially if we have previously installed 10, but the free upgrade year has passed?

you upgrade to the equivalent version

Win10 Pro goes to Win7 Pro & Ultimate
Win10 Home goes to Win7 Starter, Home Basic, and Home Premium

yes

The Windows 10 license created for the device during the upgrade is a consumer license that is tied to the device. The license will continue to work for reinstalling Windows 10 after the free upgrade period ends- on the same device only

It looks like home editions of Win 10 won't have options to review, schedule, or customise future updates (Security Updates, Features and Fixes) - they will d/l and install automatically.
Surely that will bring in potential inconvenience / interruption / bandwidth limitation issues.
I use my laptop away from home. I'd be sorely p1ssed if using it tethered to my cellphone or sitting at a Maccas to check my mail, Win10 decided to d/l and install a 1gb update.
So before I even think of installing Win10, I'd like confirmation that I can turn automatic updates off, or that there's a simple reliable hack (ie killing the update service).
