Oooh .. so rude!! your comments could have been made without being disparaging. please think about the impact of your statements on others.

My laptop was purchased as a standard i7 laptop to test Windows 10 on. My disdain for windows 10 is well known, if you check out the How's it going with windows 10 threads / discussion / post.

By buying an i7 with 8GB ram and standard hardware I set out to test Windows 10. I cant bag what I haven't tested thoroughly and also so many pundits telling me it is ready for business and me disagreeing, I better have some exerience with it real world, not just the odd test.

The i7 was a $1500 plus machine, not a cheap as$ $600 laptop.

Windows 10 has been a huge fail for me. Here's the latest list since that upgrade.

Windows privacy settings reverted to default settings requiring me to reset them

11 minutes start up this morning. Yet another update doing goodness knows what.
VMWare machine client on laptop locked out from sharing the network and being access from the same (host machine) and yes I have netstated, firewall opened etc everything. Even turned the firewall off. Its some thing in the security settings somewhere. Moved to bog standard windows 7 freshly installed and ran first time. Go figure. failed on two x Windows 10 machines.
CCleaner got booted off the machine (seems its not compatible despite working well for the lest two months and being a new download then).
Reverted to 32 bit versions of Visual C redistribution as the 64 bit is not being picked up and handled by php.exe / wamp / xamp and other similar software.
Network settings dropped out and needed to be remade.

Glad MS decided to update my pc for my convenience.

Re using an SSD drive. Not enough space, one of my VM images is 100GB on its own. I dont have a $1000 plus spare for a large enough SSD.My SSD driven laptops / desktops always have fast network access to a file server - they have to as the SSd doesn't hold enough for many business machines.

I have clients using 100Gb SSD drives, and space is often an issue. Files are getting larger, Windows folder is taking over 1/3 of the space and they are down to less than 15% disk space. Photos, large mail files, increasing levels of bloatware (Windows \SXS folder I'm looking at you) Add to that the caching that is growing for web browsers and so many offline / online systems. If they are a business user there is also often File Sync from their Domain file server and their PC. Not many Pcs now days survive on 100Gb disks and the 250Gb disk are only just coming into a reasonable price range.

Its not just about fast load up, its about the whole annoyance and kack factor, like advertising. Oh that reminds me, latest updates and MS Office file upload is restarting automatically again - another killed item returning to provide functionality I don't use while adding security wholes and network overhead. How will that be fixed by using an SSD drive?

Also on the subject of SSD drives. Windows Defender is heavy, does extra scans on startup that are not required. What will that do to the life of your ssd? Then add in the indexer, disk noise from the notifications service, and the other disk usage hogging not needed crud like tile service etc? I wouldn't be surprised to discover your SSDs die earlier than expected from all the extra disk access Windows 10 adds to your systems.

Lastly, Windows 10 has network resource issues. I have been finding errors appearing on windows 10 where it is out of network resource. Netstat shows a few pages of old connections, wait connections etc, many of them caused by windows processes or stuff that Ms puts on board like skype, office365 etc all talking back to the mother ship. Add to that 40 connections to 1e100 (google) connections from edge / web browsers and there are one heck of a lot of connections running. I am seeing network errors for out of resource when I run my stuff (ping plotter, MTR etc) which I haven't seen on Win 7, Win XP etc. Again, lots of extra noise and resource usage not required. (no its not a virus - its all traffic to akami, 1e100, skype, office, M$ etc)

**** - on the subject of SSD's windows 7, starting in 70Mb of ram, working on word docs in under 7 seconds. i3 dual core, 4Gb ram. 3 years old. I too can tune stuff.

It's just really confusing how Windows 10, for you, appears to suffer pretty much every imaginable fault and problem, yet for almost everyone else it's completely usable - and for many, better than any other version of Windows.

I'm sure, logically, you can understand why it's confusing that one educated user is suffering ALL THE PROBLEMS while most people don't.

You have sum that up right Talkiet personally i've got 3 laptop and 5 pc here all running windows 10 and one windows 2012 server . I can assure you if their issue with load up time on a laptop it either user created or simply type drive that in laptop causing to snail along. SDHD drive have 1 TB size and have added advantage of booting faster. Check prices on computerlounge.co.nz and you find they not expensive upgrade to obtain and if say you are experience you should be able to do windows reload yourself.

I haven't had anything like the problems nunz has but I also don't place heavy demands on the one machine I have Win 10 on. Having said that, I have to add that I am in at least partial agreement with him. I find Win 10 quirky, inconsistent and unreliable and I have made a considered decision not to upgrade any of my other machines. The only reason I don't roll back my laptop is because it came with Win 8.1 and I don't trust Win 10 enough to roll back anyway. If I could be sure of finding the necessary drivers I would install Win 7.

It's possible, my Windows 10 laptop and iPhone 5S have all the problems that nobody else seem to have. I've given up complaining about it.

I think the best thing you can do is return that laptop to the supplier. Ok, it is not a cheap laptop but in the $1500 bracket - for i7 and 8GB and 1TB - it is somewhat on the cheap side for that spec.

And another change has kicked in. skype.

Skype is now trolling through your contacts lists, outlook.com, outlook , office365 etc, finding people you have on your lsit who also have skype and adding them.

However it also seems to have picked up people I may have talked / contacted once and who are in my cached addresses list, not my main saved contacts list.

As a result my quiet little skype contact list has grown from the 5-8 people I deal with on skype, and added another twenty or more people, most of whom i don't know or were just a once of email for business.

It seems this functionality originated via my Android phone, and now has some how migrated to my windows 10 PC.

Seriously, I try Windows 10 with default configurations, say yes to an Office 365 Subscription, turn off skype and other crud auto starting, allow my Android phone to use office 365 and suddenly my skype contacts lists are unusable. (also more blooming cloud services, office file uploaders and other Thomas Crapper bloatware appearing and running)

What really rips my daks is:

The contacts list isn't the same on Android and PC, despite being the same account. Doesn't sync properly.
I cant delete the contacts I dont want - I can block them but not delete them as it seems MS have somehow tied them to my android phone list, or office 365, or outlook or ????

Fracking Nanny State Computers. Arrgghhh!!!!!!! They cant even get their basic meddling right.

I honestly can see a time looming where either / or:

PCs peeve off people enough by mistakenly assuming that their [auto corrects, auto linking, helpful hints, adding and removing functionality automatically] etc are helpful, so that people throw them away.
Another OS comes to the fore where you manually choose what you want and it stays that way (wow what an insane concept)
Everyone is working with the same homogenised, pile of crud, dumbed down set of functionality and all diversity has been killed. (Maybe they'll call it the cloud or something weird like that.)

I like Windows 10 and it runs well on our i5 desktop with SSD, older i7 laptop with spinning HD and Surface Pro 4.

My most recent annoyance was when I wanted to use a CD with an emulator. I inserted the CD, Windows 10 decided that it couldn't read it (being in a "foreign" format) and proceeded to eject it. It then popped up a message asking me to reinsert it, only for it to eject it again.

I just now finally got around to putting 10 on our 4 year old Windows 7 Toshiba (4 G of RAM) which is wired up to our TV and streams via Air Video to our iPads.

All my files were where I left them including the Air Video Server software but it did delete Speccy and Ccleaner. No big deal, can grab ccleaner again. ;)
