ubernoob: Since upgrading to W10 I had an issue with Outlook that Brumfondl sorted for me and I have been reading the thread with interest.

I have just discovered that my Outlook 2010 cant send emails since upgrading to Win10.
It can receive emails just fine though.
Was this your issue?
What version is your Outlook and how did you fix it? It may work for me also.

The lack of a progress bar is pretty infuriating.  I've just been leaving my inlaws laptop going non stop in the hope it's doing something...

So, based on my own experience and those of others here, I will defer the hordes of friends and rellies who want Win10 updates for a couple of months I think.

Which leads to a question for Nathan perhaps : Will the ISO files available for download using the MediaCreationTool be updated as time goes by? Or shall I just download them now as they wont be changing any time during the 12 month free upgrade offer?

I can't tell you what will happen between now and July 29, 2016

If I could predict the future, I wouldn't be here as I would've won Lotto several times over and retired

When you run setup.exe to install Windows 10 it actually has dynamic updating so it can pull down bits before it reboots your PC to upgrade, or during a fresh install.

This is actually why upgrade is working so well for people.

qraider: Still have my little flag sitting on the toolbar :(

I did notice several failed downloads in the Windows Update section for Windows 10 but no prompt to install/upgrade

Will just keep on waiting ...

That Windows Update  "error" code 80240020 isn't a real error.

Rather, (in oversimplified terms) it means that WU/setup needs to show some UX to the user and there isn't a user session to show it yet.

The "error" will resolve itself in time and eventually show the appropriate UX to the user to continue the installation.

This "error" is both expected and benign. Your PC is waiting its turn in the reservation process.

Please, please don't use the workarounds on the web to get around this "error" -they are totally unsupported. If you are impatient, just use the Windows 10 media creation tool to do an upgrade now in an supported fashion

Sorry, didn't realise it was a crystal ball scenario. I just thought there may be a plan about such things.

Also, the sfc thing did the trick thanks.

How many failed entries in Windows Update does Microsoft think are "helpful"
Based on 4 days of experience, every time the system checked for updates it failed to install Windows 10 leaving a failed line in the update history.

If the user waited until Windows notified that the update was available, how many failed entries will their be in the history?

I don't like the new desktop background chooser, It starts off with 5 default images to choose from, but once you have set it to a custom one the default ones get removed and you can't set it to them again

The number depends on how far down in the reservation order there are

If you want it now just download the ISO and be done with it.

Is anyone having issues with shutting down? My PC doesn't shut down... the power light stays on and as soon as you use the keyboard you are back at the login screen. I have had to turn off fast boot to resolve the issue.

Had same problem on 3 PCs here, running a sfc/ scannow fixed it.

Hadn't noticed but a quick Google and you will have a trillion wallpaper images to choose from. Don't see this as a deal breaker.

So if my computer is telling me the upgrade is ready - it's safe to go ahead after backing up vital stuff first?
