i created a restore point before messing around with anything. so at the moment everything has been restored back to the restore point i created, so that it now is back to stock.

I think the diagnosis is that the monitor is connected to intel HD 4600 and the Nvidia 750M is a piggyback. I have emailed Dell to find out.

it is a shame because nvidia control centre has more options for connecting to say a TV. and now we have the double whammy of an extra GPU sucking power albeit at idle, without the benefits. maybe I should buy a game to utilise the NVidia haha. [hmm I should benchmark this thing to see what weird results it would show!]

but i don't plan to connect my laptop to a TV. but hey you never know, hence it could be handy one day. i can live with waking up the laptop twice. just an annoyance rather than anything else.

but i do expect more from a high end laptop :D

i am going to post the final result in my review thread to warn other buyers.

If you are happy with Restore Points... I personally disable restore points altogether - use disk space and the only time I needed it, didn't work - if anything happens I just reinstall (pre Windows 8) or refresh.

restore points have been hit and miss in windows vista, more hit than misses in windows 7, in windows 8 so far have been ok. but yeah useless when you *need*ed it most ...

I want to see all my pictures a slideshow in the desktop background. in windows 7 you can select a folder and check include subfolders.

why can't I include subfolders in windows 8.1? is there a possible hack? google turned out ZERO hits :(

A very quick google suggests that you can use the pictures library and it will include all subfolders (perhaps you could create a custom library?).

Otherwise it appears you can't.

I am using 8.1 with the windows Classic start menu, booting to desktop.

Anybody know of a quick way to have the desktop setup for all default programs? By defaultWindows 8 sets several common file types to open in Metro. I know it can be done manually but looking for an easy solution to run on multiple accounts and on more than one computer.

left my laptop alone at 7am to go work (80%) only to find that upon return it was still awake despite setting it to sleep after 5 min - the cool thing is it was showing 9% ... that is pretty cool!

anyway powercfg lastwake shows the last time it slept and woken up was with a button.

that means it never went to sleep?

how can I find out why?
