Did a fresh install from the media creator onto a USB stick.

It talked at me. No obvious shut up button that I could see. Annoying.

freitasm:

Running the new Windows now. Control Panel not being there is easy: tap the Windows key and type "Control".

VPN connection from the systray icon!

Has the way you connect to a VPN changed?

It was so simple under Windows 7 and 8 - you clicked on the VPN like a wireless network and then had a connect/disconnect button appear. The move in Windows 10 to have to then go to VPN settings just to connect to a VPN was crazy.

Upgrade went well, no problems, thinking of doing a fresh install anyway since my PC hasn't been refreshed since upgrading from 7

I just installed it. As a super frequent VPN user it's the best change they've made to Win 10 - making something simple and logical like it used to be with every previous version of Windows!

It only took almost a year (or more if counting feedback before RTM) to return VPN connections to what it was before.

Talk about not considering feedback early...

Talkiet: Failed to install and rolled back twice now...... ...

Took me several tries to update; eventually ran latestwu.diagcab which fixed it.

I run multiboot W10 64-bit Pro RTM, W10 64-bit Pro Insider Preview, & Mint, using EasyBCD 2.3 as boot manager. After installing 1703 I had trouble switching between OSs (which to my recollection has not happened before through a long history of W10 Previews Linux updates etc.) Eventually discovered that "Fast Startup" was enabled in 1703, problem was fixed when I disabled "Fast Startup".

Giving Edge another chance. It's really annoying how it opens a new tab with an address/search bar in the middle of the page and as soon as you start typing it moves the whole thing to the top.

I'm pretty happy with it so far. Installed through preview insider update a couple of days ago. First time off the charger got 1/2 the normal battery life for some reason. But it has been fine since then. Either it was a one off, or the .13 patch fixed something. Night mode works well, I updated to Bash 16.04 and that has worked fine. Everything else has been smooth and nothing has broken. Nothing I use daily has drastically changed really.

Windows attempted to update 15063 [Redstone 2] to 16170 [Redstone 3 Preview]. Several re-tries. Eventually error 0x80070003 "Service registration missing or corrupt" - if Windows "knows" this why did it not rectify the problem itself? After running latestwu.diagcab (yet again) the update appeared to proceed normally, getting to the stage of re-booting a few times. Then - "Your PC ran into a problem"; "Restoring your previous version of Windows".

I upgraded two laptops.

They both booted up and work fine. For my use case (opening browser, Thunderbird and Word/Visio) I haven't noticed any difference.

My bet is it doesn't reset your file associations. These things were bugs, they were always bugs and we believed we fixed them all. If not let us know, they are bugs and we will fix them.

Yes we uninstall incompatible software and try to reinstall compatible versions. Possibly choose to use an AV vendor that is modern.

why not just leave peoples stuff alone and don't uninstall anything just give us a polite warning that it may not work and may need updating if that's the case but please do not uninstall my stuff as that is not your problem when going from 1511 to 1607 MS uninstalled a whole bunch of stuff that guess what works perfectly fine under 1607 SO I then had to reinstall it all over again

Well, tried Edge for three days now and went back to Chrome. LastPass won't work properly - as in if I select "AutoFill" from the Extension icon nothing happens but if I select the dropdown from the page itself then it fills the form. Also on LastPass if I select Copy Password (so I can paste in to the field since AutoFill doesn't work) nothing is copied.

This goes back to my previous report that it seems extensions might have some problem accessing page content.

I also noticed Copy and Paste may or may not work. Here is a specific problem: edit a post on Geekzone (which is basically a field with TinyMCE on it) then copy may work one out of a five times. Also sometimes when Copy actually works I see this in the clipboard during Paste instead of the actual content:

Version:1.0 StartHTML:000000272 EndHTML:000002067 StartFragment:000001910 EndFragment:000002035 StartSelection:000001910 EndSelection:000002035 SourceURL:http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=141&topicid=209144&replyid=1745902&page_no=1&action=edit_replies

It seems to me Edge still has some debug code that is not quite working.

@nathan might be interested in that. I looked at the Feedback Hub and there are plenty of reports of Edge Copy/Paste not working so there's that...

I now prefer Windows 10 over Windows 7, especially since (finally) file associations don't keep changing.
In general its a great OS.

One annoyance.
Before this "Creators" update we used to be able to change the text sizes of:
Title bars, Menus, Message boxes, Palette titles, Icons, Tooltips.

The update has removed all of these options.

And no, using Custom Scaling is not the same thing.
Many users like to vary some of these text sizes, not all of them at once.
For some users with poor eyesight this is going backwards.
