mattwnz: What about windows 8.1 RT? I haven't seen it appear on my dell windows 8.1 laptop yet which is odd. But presume that it doesn't make any difference.

My understanding is RT is not being upgraded to 10

I thought it was being upgraded to something that closely resembles windows 10, maybe it will be called something else. Supposedly it is supported until 2023, so it has quite a long time left to be supported.

I've got two older PCs, which I got a windows 7 upgrade for from windows xp, and neither have had the windows 10 upgrade popup. I believe the windows upgrade  was part of microsofts ultimate steal upgrade program for education staff and students. They are full versions in every way, and pass the genuine windows tests. Anyone else get windows 7 in this way and also not receive the upgrade notification? I have had it on my other PCs which were new with windows 7 or 8.

3 of my non offer machines are running whatever PB tech image their ex lease PCs with. not sure if its using the key on a sticker on the case or not, another is using a key that was off an old junk PC that came with 7 on it when it was barely fit to run ME or similar that I picked up at a garage sale. And the 8.1 lappys are running whatever they came with - not a pro one since it cant connect to the domain. And then there is my 2 little atom based 8.1 with bing machines.\

None of them have offered me an upgrade. Perhaps I need to reboot outside the once a month windows update reboots to provoke it into action?

It is interesting, as they must be pushing to different versions. I guess if it never does show it, we will need to call microsoft to get a manual key.

just because the reservation popup isn't happening on your machine doesn't meant the upgrade won't work.

Come July 29 you'll be able to download the upgrade which will check your existing key before it upgrades to 10

You'll also be able to download ISO images etc

Its good if they are masking upgrade images available. MS was dumb to not allow this with the 8 to 8.1 upgrade. That annoyed a lot of people. It actually seems MS are actually trying hard these days.

I havent really been following anything to do with windows 10, but got notification on both my Win 7 and Win 8.1 devices when i ran windows update today.

What i want to know is, will i benefit at all from an update to windows 10? is it worth it?

is there anywhere that has a good rundown on the improved features over the older versions of windows?

Came home last night to find my computer had restarted for Windows update and the Get10 notification icon was back.
Hope it doesn't do this every month.

I've only got it on one machine so far. My worst portable machine by far.

I'm running 8 x desktops and 2 x laptops, all with Windows 7 SP1.

The Win10 notifications have come on random days - my older PCs came first, for some strange reason.

My newest PC (fresh build/activation last week) still has not been yet notified.

There's plenty of time before 29 July  smile

It will stay in the notification tray until the upgrade is done it only uses 176KB of memory so it's not like it's a drag or hog on resources
