because you can just double-click an ISO in Win 8.1 and it will mount it as a new drive for you.

If so, thanks for the tip. I will try that out with the Office 2013 ISO I was trying to install

If you get an error message (I always do), check to see if the drive was mounted anyhow - for some reason I get an error presented, but it always works.

Im using windows 8 and it does have some nice features like native iso mounting, but I really dont like the new start menu. Basically because it has the same functionality as the old start menu did but takes up the whole screen to do so. I have mostly fixed the problem by using classic shell but there are still some annoyances where you have to use the metro interface for certain tasks that should be doable in the control panel, such as changing your user password

If it wasn't for 3rd party mods I wouldn't be using windows 8, I don't see any logical reason for them to not have the old start menu built in as an option. Its ok for me because I am willing to tweak stuff to get it the way I like, but I definitely wouldn't recommend windows 8 to non tech savy people, its just not worth it.

Number 3 for me.

In my experience, when I question people about what they don't like about win8 they um and ah and say the metro interface, which can be hidden with a single click. And now with 8.1 you can choose to boot straight to desktop and choose to have the psuedo start menu open directly to show all programs. So you can mimic the *old* way of doing things pretty well.

Funny how some people get so peeved over some aspects of a GUI and forget/choose not to care about the improvements under the hood where it matters.
Bad analogy follows: "I don't want that new Nissan GTR, the colour of the pin-stripe is terrible! I will stick to my old Bluebird thank you!"

I am an early-adopter type person so I usually embrace change and find it exciting TBH.

I guess I'm number 1). I've been using it without any third-party apps to work around what I don't like though I install them for others. I've used it with a touch enabled laptop recently and its much better but on a Desktop with a mouse its more of pain easily worked around with keyboard shortcuts for the most part. 8.1 didnt really bring anything a button that takes you back to the start screen isn't anymore helpful than just pressing the windows key.

1) You are opposed to Windows 8 (there is a large group that feels operating Win8 is counter-intuitive and intended for tablet/mobile use rather than on a desktop)

I feel that metro is not designed for mice, is not asthetically nice to look at (buttons are ment to be 3d, not 2d text links) and even with classic-shell start menu, you cannot get it to change back to a windows 2000 style appearance. The windows shell still feels 8ish with the window borders etc being bright colours and ugly.
