if your0background download hasn't kicked off, are you running NZ regional settings/languages etc?  If not, then you might be waiting for it to kick off midnight USA time for example..

J32: I did not have the BT folder at all. Just went into the console and entered "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" and it started the download right away.

Thanks tried that. But all it seems to do is kick off the GUI Windows update process.
But when looking in windows update I see this error:

Looking up that error code shows no results from Microsoft either.

My standard windows updates were always working correctly. I wonder if this has something to do with me cleaning up some of my temp files yesterday. I did clean out

C:\Users\?<User Names>\AppData\Local\Temp\ to make space for the upgrade when it became available.

semigeek: How many people have run Setup? And if so, did any files get deleted?

I did but, didn't notice any files missing

Same - my BT folder remained 6.62GB in size.

My desktop is stuck at 5.97GB right now, so looks like it hasn't deleted anything. My laptop is at 4.02GB, but I didn't run it on there.

I don't know if by running setup.exe I've broken the installing process. I did have a folder called Install in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, even while having C:\$Windows.~BT. But checking before it has disappeared.

Hi Regs

Can you give us any more information if we execute setup.exe prematurely and what might happen to the installation process?

I think the error code 8044001C just means windows update wasn't able to connect to the MS servers.

I have the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution as well, on my laptop, but I haven't run setup on that machine, and there is no Install folder.

My windows update page says now "Downloading Windows 10" and "preparing for installation". Will see how far I get.

Let us know how you get along.

My ~BT folder is still sitting at 6.62GB in size (although it states the size on disk is less than that), containing 17,745 files and 3,602 folders.

I hope by running setup.exe before I haven't buggered things up.

Why is the BT folder over 6GB when the download is only supposed to be 3GB?

I think it is suppose to disappear after the download is complete. Not sure though, cannot find the post in this thread that mentioned that directory.

EDIT: The directory the Install folder was in was C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download, not C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. My error.
