Just recieved the email and tracking number from Microsoft store stating that my Surface tablet has shipped. Hopefully, I will have it in my hands by end of October.

I played around with the consumer preview for a while on my laptop

I will leave windows 7 on my desktop for now because the layout is more suited for a desktop.

For a tablet though I think windows 8 is a good thing

Harvey Norman are preselling Win8 Pro for $88 including a free 16GB USB drive.
Guess that must be the upgrade version and assume its either 32 or 64bit?

Just out of interest, if I upgrade, will I lose my current programs and settings? I am currently using Vista,  but don't really want to lose a lot of my software as most of it came from Giveaway of the day.

sidefx:
paulspain: Is NZ Post's YouShop service relevant for purchasing the Surface considering they have limitations regarding transporting hardware with Lithium-Ion batteries?

They revised their conditions (see the thread about YouShop) and pretty much all phone\tablet\laptop batteries are now ok.

youshop requires to to enter your youshop id in the name field, but the microsoft store doesn't allow numbers in the name field....  solution?

UPDATE:  added it in the "Company" field.  Its also in the Address Line 2.  Hopefully that should be sufficient....

I entered my first name then last name in first line then had youshop address in second line then had my youshop suite id in the 3rd line then city and state in 4th line followed by post code and country as US. I hope it makes it without having suite id in first line.

Anyone going to Harvey Norman at midnight tomorrow to be one of the first to buy Win8?

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Question;

I have two Win7 OEM licenses here.

I know I can upgrade them - but I've had troubles in the past with hardware changing in the machines - and having to re-activate using their phone service.

Do the upgrade versions come with the new system builder license? Can I upgrade to that license?

Have to say, $88 is good for a microsoft upgrade. Harvey Norman are even chucking in a 16GB usb stick with it for that price. Not quite at Apples "just about give the OS away" prices, but a good offer to get people upgrading.

I am confused. It only says windows 8 pro. No mention of upgrade or full version. Ideas?

how do you mean? Pro is the full version.

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/microsoft-windows-8-pro.html

*This product is an upgrade from previous versions of windows (Windows XP, Vista, 7)

Get it and you can either delete the old windows install and install this fresh or you can upgrade your current one to win 8.

It will let you do a full install regardless. You can even install release preview of Windows 8 and install this upgrade copy on top of it and it will still do a clean install.
