Hi all,

I really need somebody's help!

While I was away on holiday, my cousin decided to use my laptop one day when he came over to my house and he installed Ubuntu 7.10 on another partition. I don't know what he did, but when you boot my laptop up now and you go to select which OS you want to boot into, if you select Ubuntu it goes well. However, if you want to boot into Vista an error comes up saying I need to insert my Vista disk to carry out a repair. So i tried this, and under the repair window it asks me to choose what partition to repair, but nothing comes up. Its just blank.

Right now I'm using Ubuntu. The partition that Vista was/is on, is still there with all the Windows files and folders.

Why isn't it booting up?

Help please!! Please ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you asked your cousin to fix it? Sounds like you didn't give them permission to mess it up for you.

Hi Ebbi,

have you tried to see your vista partition? maybe using qparted in ubuntu could help...then you could mount the partition..
i've never used vista before...sorry

Lol thanks for the only helpful suggestion but a little too late.
I ended up formatting the whole drive, thinking I could reinstall Vista, but when I went to reinstall it couldnt even recognise there was a Harddrive in the comp. Linux could recognise it...so I ended up installing Linux.

Nothing wrong with Linux, ubuntu seems good for first timers, you may want to try and download or buy from trademe, opensuse, that's what I am using on my laptop which used to run XP Pro, I LOVE IT!!

Yeah ive already got Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon installed. I actually like the speed of it compared to Vista.
Theres just some areas where I do miss Vista...Its just a little more polished.

Next OS I want is OS X. I want to get a Macbook..hopefully in a few years time lol
