That does seem like an old board.. Did you tick the third party box during the install?

It doesn't matter anyway since he's using Chrome as it has flash built in. Adobe is no longer supporting flash under Linux and Google have been given the rights to keep it up to date in their browser. Mozilla now do it in Firefox too apparently but it's their own version of it.

can you elaborate on that. It's the first I have heard of this as Mozilla have been consistently adamant that they will not support the pepper plugin required for newer version of flash to work in linux.

Yes I did tick the box. Pretty sure its the PC now, tried to install XP on to it to see if that would get it to work, couldn't get it installed kept locking up and stalling

Ok, I was going to suggest a reinstall of ubuntu without the mx but if the machine has issues that might be a waste of time.

I did a reinstall without the card a few days ago and that made no difference. The machine has been getting steadily more temperamental so it has done its days I suspect.

It's not an old VIA motherboard is it? I used to have one of those and I had no end of trouble installing both XP and any form of Linux. In fact the only way around it was Fedora 13 worked or I had to turn off L2 cache to install XP, which as you could imagine, took forever.

I'll look up the Mozilla thing, I read about it somewhere.

Yep I think you're right, I'll take that back. I must have misinterpreted something I read. Seems they're going to keep using Flash as long as it's being given updates. I wonder what gnash is like these days..

Its an Asus A7V8X-LA from what I can see on the board

Got a replacement PC- DELL Dimension 3100, Ubuntu installed and working fine. Playing flash video using on board graphics well.

Ok, another slight problem. Am trying to play a dvd - Resident Evil, movie player is telling me its encrypted and VLC won't do anything at all. What do I need now?

Thanks for that anyway. Yeah that’s what I've installed, seems to work a treat. Also pretty amazed, its connected to my windows home net work and allowing me to access the three other PC's without me having to do anything. Very happy so far now.
