Has anyone managed to make this actually work?

Mine just shows a blank off-white grid of squares.

It keeps asking for wifi to be on, which I have switched on but since I live in the countryside and there are no other detectable wifi signals other than mine, which is undetectable from the road so could not have been mapped by any passing Google type vehicle etc., I cannot see what use turning wifi on would be since I use Ethernet to connect.

At the moment, Maps is tantamount to bloatware (like Garage Band!) and I'm sure it is meant to have some useful function.

I had that post install, but now working fine. It only lasted a day like it, I guess it was during the time spotlight etc was indexing the drives and using a lot of resources.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I think the WiFi gives/improves the location of the device? It would need to have an IP address to work probably maybe?

Works fine for me, but it's not fast - certainly not as fast as Google Maps when using satellite view. I wish there was a way to download Map packages so that you don't have to buffer cities when entering flyover mode.

Works fine for me too, we're also in the country with no other Wi-Fi networks close by, and the network is unreachable from the road. I think if you connect an iOS device with GPS to the network enough, Apple will learn its location. That's the only way I think it could work, and also, I doubt Apple would use Google's mapping data for location services, but they may do.
