Went to view some movie trailers on the following two Apple websites:
Independent - Movie Trailers - iTunes
iTunes Movie Trailers

Guess what? I couldn't because the Quicktime plugins had been disabled in Firefox for Mac OS during my upgrade to El Capitan. After 10 minutes of research discovered that this was deliberate by Apple for the following reason:

If you visit a webpage that requires the legacy QuickTime 7 web plug-in, your web browser might display a message that the plug-in is missing or not supported. This plug-in is no longer enabled in OS X El Capitan, because websites increasingly use the HTML5 web standard to deliver a better video-playback experience across a wide range of browsers and devices.

So Apple hasn't even updated their own websites to comply with their own standards - very poor, get your act together Apple.

The fix for this is on the same page as the above quote: If your web browser says that it‘s missing the QuickTime plug-in

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Works fine for me in El Capitan in Safari and Chrome. Not up to Apple to fix a Firefox issue.

It takes two to tango, and content sites often return different data depending on the browser. Would not be surprised to find that DRM is also a factor.

Please reread the quote I placed in my OP. This is definitely an Apple created issue NOT a Firefox issue. To fix it I had to go deep within El Capitan and nowhere near the Firefox Directories or Folders or Preference panes. Apple of course would not disable it for Safari which would have its own inbuilt "Content Type" application plugins, as for Chrome don't use so can not comment.

There is of course the issue that Apple are not even following their own guidelines in that the two Apple websites I mentioned have not been rewritten in HTML5 and still require the QuickTime plugin.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
