As for the issues, one isolated issue shouldn't be cause for concern.  We have no idea of now the blogger treated his machine, or the issues that a faulty logic board could have caused to the rest of the system.

SightUnseen: It is impossible to release updates that cover the gamut of what a user can possibly have done to their system.

I do check Apple's support forums - every day in fact. I'm an L4 and have been for many years. In my experience people who suffer issues have often done silly things to their systems. Not all - there are ones caught by an insufficient testing on Apple's part, but a lot of it is caused by people not thinking.

Not regarding all the updates, share your thoughts, feedback and success/failure rates with 10.5.3 updates so that others who are waiting to upgrade can go ahead.
